Quality Engineering Intern

Job Summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic intern to join our Quality Engineering team. This entry‑level position is perfect for individuals eager to gain hands‑on experience in inspection and sampling activities in the field. You will learn essential skills while working alongside experienced professionals, ensuring quality and safety standards are upheld throughout various projects.

• Complete all required safety and orientation training for customer facility access.
• Shadow a senior inspector to learn basic inspection and sampling techniques.
• Familiarize yourself with and adhere to American Petroleum Institute (API) and IFIA procedures, as well as company policies.
• Perform basic inspection tasks under supervision, which may include product measurements, temperature readings, and sample collection.
• Maintain effective communication with office staff to ensure timely updates and coordination.
• Prepare and distribute field reports accurately to vessels, terminals, and the office.
• Safely transport samples obtained during inspections.
• Complete other assigned tasks as determined by your supervisor.

• High school diploma or relevant experience in the industry.
• Strong ability to communicate effectively in English.
• Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Proficiency in basic computer applications, specifically word processing and spreadsheets.
• Possess a valid and insured vehicle that is safe for job use, along with a current driving license.
• Willingness to accept job assignments at any time, including scheduled days off, and flexibility to work shifts as needed.
• Ability to work in refinery and marine environments.
• Must be available and responsive to office communications at all times.
• Attendance at monthly safety meetings is essential.
• A TWIC Card may be required for access to specific sites.

Employees may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals. AmSpec provides necessary training and personal protective equipment to ensure safety. Work may be conducted outdoors in varying weather conditions, including refineries, terminals, and on marine vessels, with the possibility of high noise levels. Local and, at times, long‑distance travel may be necessary.

• This position is safety‑sensitive, requiring pre‑employment and ongoing drug and alcohol testing.
• Annual pulmonary fitness tests are mandatory.
• Physical examinations will be performed by a designated physician to confirm the ability to perform essential job functions.
• Annual respirator fit testing is required.
• Workers may need to qualify for working in areas with hydrocarbon vapors based on blood test results.
• Ability to wear required safety equipment and perform inspection tasks in all weather conditions.
• Standing for extended periods and carrying samples/equipment (up to 45 lbs) may be necessary.
• Climbing storage tank ladders and other heights safely, as well as working in confined spaces, is required.
