Position: Human Factors Scientist, Incident and Accident Analysis (Ph.D.)

Human Factors Scientist – Human Factors Practice

Location:

Phoenix, AZ – Exponent is seeking a Human Factors Scientist to join our Human Factors Practice. The role focuses on analyzing human performance in scenarios involving automobiles, occupational work, and consumer products, and working closely with engineers across several practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and manage consulting activities that analyze human perceptual, cognitive, and response capabilities and limitations in accidents, and the prevention of accidents.
  • Conduct hands‑on inspections and analyze human performance related to vehicles and roadways to investigate accidents and injuries.
  • Work on multi‑disciplinary projects, providing case management, data processing, and other project support.
  • Conduct research to obtain and review technical data, scientific literature, and standards.
  • Develop client contacts and prepare written and oral summaries of human factors analyses.
  • Participate in the design and evaluation of warnings and safety information.
  • Communicate complex analyses clearly and succinctly to a non‑technical audience.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Experimental, Cognitive, or Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Science, Cognitive Neuroscience, or a related field.
  • Undergraduate degree in Psychology, Engineering, or a related discipline is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in experimental design, human subjects testing, instrumentation (e.g., eye tracking, EEG/ERP, physiological data), data analysis, and/or computer programming (e.g., R, MATLAB, SAS, SPSS, LabVIEW).
