Overview
Terracon's Phoenix Environmental team is seeking entry-level candidates looking for a career in environmental site investigation and remediation. The role involves interest in geological sciences, environmental contamination investigation and remediation, and field work. Responsibilities include evaluating and interpreting subsurface field and sampling data (soil and groundwater) to develop conclusions about environmental and geologic site conditions. The position requires collaboration with engineering and environmental scientist staff on projects, field monitoring and testing of soils (including boring investigations and soil type classification) under supervision, interpretation of soil, bedrock and groundwater elevation and quality data, and assistance in preparing written plans and reports related to site investigations, assessments and remediation activities.
Projects may include construction projects focusing on earthwork or groundwater investigation, well design and sampling, and environmental assessments such as Phase I/II site assessments.
- Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects; participate in pre-task planning and report any safety issues or concerns to management.
- Maintain quality standards on all projects.
- Gather data and information for evaluation by other team members.
- Perform sampling and testing of water, soil, and other materials.
- Tabulate and prepare data for written reports; assist with report preparation by summarizing data and information within reports.
- Operate field monitoring equipment and assist with operation and maintenance of remediation and instrumentation systems.
- Transport material, samples or documents to the laboratory; calibrate and maintain field equipment.
- Conduct site visits, field observations and data collection; assist in the collection and analysis of data from sampling, reports, maps, drawings, tests and aerial photographs to evaluate, plan and permit projects.
- Implement technical requirements to complete client projects by directing field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities.
- Outline required investigative programs by selecting appropriate techniques to conduct site studies; may have limited client contact on specific projects/tasks.
- Develop written proposals to clients for approval by senior level professionals; evaluate moderately complex laboratory and field data and assemble in written reports.
- May supervise or serve as a team member in meetings and communications with clients; may oversee work performed by lower level Geologists/Hydrogeologists.
- Conduct site testing and provide recommendations for systems design on projects of varying complexity; participate with more senior Geologists on larger projects.
- May participate in the development of proposals for small and large projects, including quality control review of proposals written by others.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology or related field.
- A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history may be required.
- Certification in field of expertise
