Assistant Research Professor, Internal Medicine (Career Track) (PhD) (College of Medicine-Phoenix)

The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix invites talented academic scientists to apply for an outstanding career faculty position. The successful applicant will have expertise in tissue procurement and the development of patient‑derived organoid technology, dedicating 90% of their time to research activities, including collaborative team‑based science, service to departmental investigative efforts, directing tissue procurement, and training students and technicians.

Responsibilities
  • Direct tissue procurement efforts for the Department.
  • Develop processes, procedures, and a collaborative research program in the field of 3D organoid biology.
  • Expand collaborative efforts with University of Arizona biomedical scientists and physician scientists to develop organoids relevant to cancer, lung disease, and liver disease.
  • Develop human precision‑cut lung and liver slice model systems.
  • Perform tissue histology, staining, and quantification.
  • Organize tissue bank collection of FFPE, fresh frozen, and organoid samples.
  • Participate in training of students and technicians.
  • Serve as a productive member of the Department and the College through impactful scholarly work and good citizenship.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Hold a PhD in a related field of study from an accredited institution.
  • Have post‑doctoral training and/or experience commensurate with appointment at the rank of assistant professor.
  • Demonstrate scholarly accomplishment in research.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrate experience in cancer, lung, or liver organoid development.
  • Have current funding in the area of 3D organoid biology.
  • Demonstrate experience in melanoma, pancreatic cancer, GI cancers, or lung cancer.
  • Show experience investigating fibrotic diseases and drug development approaches.
  • Demonstrate experience studying fibroblast biology and/or cancer‑associated fibroblasts (CAFs).
