AECOM is seeking a mid-level Geologist/Hydrogeologist for our Phoenix, Arizona office. Candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant environmental consulting or related experience and a strong interest in field-based work. This role supports a variety of environmental investigation, assessment, and remediation projects throughout Arizona and the Southwest within a collaborative, safety-focused culture, with opportunities for professional growth.

The successful candidate will contribute to the execution of both routine and complex assessment, investigation, and remediation activities, supporting AECOM's commitment to technical excellence, innovation, and regulatory compliance.

The position includes a balance of field and office responsibilities. Candidates should demonstrate flexibility across diverse projects, a strong commitment to health and safety, and the ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct site characterization and remedial investigations of surface and subsurface impacts using data collected from soil borings, test pits, geophysical surveys, aquifer testing, and sampling of environmental media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil vapor, and air) for field screening and laboratory analysis.
  • Prepare soil boring logs, interpret vadose zone and groundwater characteristics, identify pathways to environmental receptors, prepare technical reports, and support the development of remedial action plans based on site investigation data.
  • Manage field sample chain-of-custody documentation, packaging, and shipment of environmental samples to analytical laboratories.
  • Oversee subcontractor field activities related to environmental investigation and remediation projects.
  • Support coordination of field activities including utility locating, surveying, drilling, and remediation field efforts under the direction of project managers.
  • Communicate effectively with project team members, subcontractors, and clients regarding field activities and changing site conditions.
  • Build experience toward professional licensure (e.g., Arizona PG) and/or Site Safety Officer certification.
  • Proactively recognize and appropriately address health and safety concerns affecting project teams.
  • Support quality assurance and quality control of assigned tasks and project deliverables.
    • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, Soil Science, Geological Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related scientific discipline and 2 years of relevant experience, or demonstrated equivalency of education and experience.
    • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record, subject to a motor vehicle records check.
    • Ability to travel and perform field work, including overnight travel as required by project needs.
    • Successful candidate will have to pass a background check.
