24-hour, 7 days a week. All hours are required; specific hours may be discussed at initial meeting or offer.
Provide security for all areas of the Washington Street Shelter, including parking lot and common areas, dorms and sleeping areas, and any other areas where staff, volunteers, residents, or guests may frequent.
Specific Duties- Perform security duties, including patrolling, crowd control, unlocking/locking buildings, arming/disarming alarms, and monitoring CCTV system.
- File incident reports in a timely manner; may include reviewing and providing pictures or video from surveillance system to local authorities or SVdP departments.
- Perform essential operational duties when volunteers are not present, such as trash removal, sweeping, mopping, serving, and stacking tables or chairs.
- Respond to emergency incidents, provide support, and lead life-saving measures such as CPR, AED, First-Aid, or Naloxone/Epinephrine injections.
- Observe staff, volunteers, and guests to ensure everyone displays a pass or company badge to be on property and follows SVdP health and safety guidelines.
- Monitor employees, volunteers, and client volunteers performing duties in their assigned area or department; investigate suspicious behavior on or around the property.
- Perform searches of residents and their belongings upon return to the property and before admission is granted.
- Demonstrate and promote ownership and a sense of community among residents and coworkers.
- Perform dorm checks periodically, ensuring dorms and sleeping areas remain clean and free of trash and debris.
- Handle disputes professionally on property and take appropriate action, including removal of individuals and/or contacting emergency response agencies. Demonstrate de‑escalation techniques and care for post‑incident occurrences.
- Display professional behavior in all situations; maintain good working relationships with staff, volunteers, and clients; assist managers, supervisors, or assistant supervisors with personnel, volunteer, or guest conflicts.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Security Manager or Supervisor.
- Participate in and model SVdP’s Culture of Philanthropy, ensuring volunteers feel welcomed and appreciated.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- 1+ year of experience in security or a related customer‑service position.
- Level One Fingerprint Clearance card, or ability to obtain one within the first 90 days of employment (required for IHC).
- Able to stand, walk, sit, bend for long periods and lift 50+ pounds.
- Must read, comprehend, and communicate orally and in writing in English.
- Required to wear assigned uniform (puncture‑resistant vest, tactical boots, etc.) at all times.
- Able to work in all environments—inside, outside, various weather conditions.
- Willing to perform life‑saving procedures such as CPR, first aid, and physical restraint.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bilingual—able to speak and translate in English and Spanish.
- Familiar with email and instant messaging communication tools.
- Familiar with CCTV surveillance systems.
- Experience in writing and documenting incident reports.
- CPR, First Aid, and CPI (De-escalation) certifications.
