Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Security Officer, you will ensure that the healthcare enterprise remains a safe place. You will maintain a safe and secure environment for medical staff, employees, patients, and visitors by patrolling the premises, managing visitors, and observing and reporting activities and incidents at an assigned site. The officer will preserve order and act to enforce regulations when assistance is requested by staff and respond rapidly to security emergencies within the hospital or other healthcare settings.
It is expected that the security officer will demonstrate behavior consistent with Common Spirit Health core values and humanity, supporting the organization’s strategic plan and quality improvement activities.
- Protect staff, patients, and visitors by responding to calls for assistance promptly for incidents such as violent or unruly patients, visitors, crimes committed or in progress, opening doors, and responding to emergency codes.
- Patrol the facility and grounds by foot or vehicle; monitor security alarms and dispatch officers promptly to required locations; and report unsafe acts or conditions.
- Apply knowledge of emergency procedures, equipment, and supplies; report HIPAA breaches if witnessed; investigate security breaches; conduct follow‑up investigations; and write incident reports.
- Log all activities in a daily log to accurately record events and complete clear, concise, and legible reports in a timely manner; use appropriate emergency and radio codes in dispatching security officers while knowing the hospital campus to ensure dispatches go to the correct location.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Six (6) months experience as a security officer in a hospital or healthcare setting, prior law enforcement or military service, or one (1) year experience as a security officer
- American Heart Association‑issued BLS card within 90 days of hire
- Arizona State Driver's License with a satisfactory DMV report
- International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic Training for Healthcare Security Officer
- Basic Health Care Security Officer (BSO) certification
