Security and Safety Specialist
Location:
North Canyon High School
Type:
Non Interim Position, 9 months, 4 hrs/day. Grade 14, $15.94/hr dates: 8/3/2026 - 5/27/2027.
Purpose Statement:
Provide support to the instructional process with specific responsibilities for the safety and welfare of students, staff, and community members while on school grounds and in alignment with school and district policy and procedures.
Reports to Site Administration.
Essential Functions- Communicate safety and security policies and procedures to students, staff, and visitors to ensure understanding and maintain a positive campus climate.
- Monitor student behavior before and after school, during and between assigned periods, and at student events; supervise lunchroom, classrooms (with substitutes), detention, open areas, athletic events, and other events as needed.
- Assist students in complying with established guidelines, maintaining a safe and positive learning environment, and securing the facility.
- Patrol school facilities (grounds, roads, buildings, adjacent areas, parking lots) to provide visibility, maintain safety and security, and promote a positive campus environment.
- Assist with the implementation of the school's emergency response plan during emergencies such as lockdowns, evacuations, shelter-in-place, etc.
- Prepare written materials to document student behavior activities, provide written references of activities, and convey information.
- Provide traffic and parking control to maintain efficient traffic flow and parking lot usage.
- Refer incidents, including personal injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, rule violations, etc., to appropriate site personnel to ensure follow-up per administrative, site security, and student safety guidelines.
- Respond to a variety of situations (accidents, injuries, vandalism, alarms, etc.) to take appropriate action to resolve immediate safety and/or security concerns.
- Participate in unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. to convey and gather required information.
- Support and enhance campus culture by encouraging students to understand the impact of their actions, reflect, and make amends.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and the social-emotional well-being of the campus.
- May assist or be assigned to other district campuses as needed.
- Participate in district/local in-service training.
- Attend district behavioral safety training for de-escalation strategies.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Desired:
Job related experience. Testing, Certificates and Licenses:
Online Driver Training Certification, Driver's License, and Evidence of Insurability. Criminal Background Clearance. Valid Arizona DPS Level I IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Environment
Physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. Requires approx 35% sitting, 50% walking, 15% standing. Exposure to temperature extremes and risk of injury or illness.
