Job SummaryThe Security Officer patrols designated Honor Health properties, screens visitors, and performs other activities related to the safety and security of staff, patients, and visitors. Responsibilities include protecting property, maintaining safety protocols, and serving as a first responder to emergencies.
Essential Functions- Ensure a safe and secure hospital campus by patrolling assigned areas and monitoring for suspicious activity or hazards.
- Investigate and report hazards, unusual or suspicious circumstances to appropriate leadership.
- Check doors and windows to ensure they are closed and locked; document any unsecured facilities in a written log.
- Escort people or property to designated destinations when safety or security concerns arise.
- Respond to alarms and dispatched calls, taking appropriate actions and unlocking buildings/doors after verifying identification and policy compliance.
- Enforce organizational policies such as parking, smoking, and badge compliance; provide staff training as needed.
- Act as first responder to disturbances or emergencies (infant abduction alarms, fire alarms, panic alarms, intruder alarms, restraint calls). Respond immediately, possibly engaging in rapid stair climbing, running, lifting heavy equipment, and other related tasks.
- Contain and restrict hostile or aggressive individuals; when authorized, apply restraint equipment in accordance with hospital policy.
- Assist law enforcement officers and security leadership with protection details, crowd control, and surveillance at large public events or mass casualty events.
- Investigate and document incidents; maintain daily activity logs and communicate information as directed.
- Complete required training and in‑services, including Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Techniques, Self‑Defense Tactics & Techniques, and certification in specialized equipment use.
- Represent Honor Health as a brand ambassador; greet patients, visitors, vendors, and staff; provide direction and assistance on campus.
- High School Diploma or GED required; an associate’s degree or equivalent preferred.
- Experience in law enforcement or security in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred but not required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Taser Certification within 90 days of hire.
- International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety Supervisor (IAHSS) certification preferred.
