Overview

Banner Health is hiring a Security Officer K9 in Phoenix, AZ. The role involves patrolling, monitoring alarms, and ensuring safety for patients, visitors, and staff while working with a trained canine (K9).

Responsibilities

The officer and K9 team manage security functions including door control, emergency response, incident investigation, and patient escort. The officer may serve as Lead Officer (OIC) on a shift, providing guidance to other staff and coordinating activities.

Core Functions

Exhibit excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

Team with K9 to tour facility and grounds, enforce parking regulations, and control traffic.

Investigate incidents, submit written reports, and maintain accurate logs for both security and K9 training.

Operate alarms, pick up and deliver items, release bodies from morgue, escort patients, and support clinical staff in searches and patient restraint.

Maintain professional appearance and follow safe‑work practices.

Complete defensive tactics, OC pepper spray, and nonviolent crisis intervention yearly.

Assist supervisor with training new officers, investigations, and special projects.

Provide daily care for K9, including feeding, exercising, grooming, and medical care.

Report directly to the Security Supervisor or manager when supervisor is off duty.

Shift Schedule

Day shift with a fixed schedule: 3 12‑hour shifts and 1 half‑day each week. Night shift positions exist with an 18% differential for work in the 7pm‑7am window.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.
Complete Banner Health approved K9 training within 3 months of hire.
Obtain NPCA Handler Certification within 12 months; renew annually.
Valid driver’s license and insurance coverage eligibility.
Three years of progressively responsible security experience.
