Provide emergency and routine control for the Security Operations Center. Monitor and dispatch functions and activities of the Center; operate a variety of airport security and operations equipment; serve as the airport’s central point of contact for airport tenants and outside agencies; serve as the lead Operations Assistant for coordination and supervision in the security operations center; assist the Airport Patrol Supervisor with duties and special projects;
handle citizen or tenant complaints regarding Airport Operations Assistants; research training classes for Operations Assistants to attend; coordinate and insure that all staff in Security Operations Center are briefed on any special detail, event or projects; responsible for the scheduling of Airport Operations Assistants; assign tasks and ensure tasks and duties are completed; monitor staff to ensure Airport Department policy is being followed;
monitor inventory of equipment and supplies; perform periodic audits of various databases for accuracy; update airport safety, security and procedures manuals as needed for compliance with State and Federal regulations; conduct special projects and studies of airport operations and prepare written reports; ensure all record keeping is accurate, thorough and timely; coordinate initial airfield emergency response; respond to a variety of situations including Security Access Control Systems violations, take appropriate enforcement action;
conduct routine inspections and patrols; and perform other duties as required.
- Operations, services and activities of an airport operations and communications program; operational characteristics of airport security and communications equipment; principles and procedures of record keeping; principles of lead supervision and training;
English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; basic mathematical principles; principles of airport emergency procedures; pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations; modern communications procedures, methods and equipment including computers. - Learn basic air traffic ground control procedures, aviation terminology, aviation phonetic alphabet and modern commercial aircraft types; make appropriate decisions; remain calm and effective under pressure situations; operate a variety of airport security and operations equipment; follow oral and written instructions; communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; compose a variety of reports, records and logs; type and enter data at a speed necessary for successful job performance;
interpret City policies and procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of duty; work independently; conduct routine inspections; lead and train staff in the Security Operations Center.
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License at the time of appointment.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid C.P.R. certificate.
Incumbents must be available to work 5/8 and/or 4/10 workweek. Regular shift hours will vary depending upon needs of the Airport. Incumbents must be available to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Position subject to rotating shifts.
