Job Overview
Security Officer K9 – Banner Health, Phoenix, AZ. This position requires patrol of facilities and grounds with a trained canine, emergency response, and security support for patients, visitors, and staff.
Shift and ScheduleDay shift (3 × 12‑hour shifts and 1 half‑day per week). Night shift positions are also available with an 18% differential for hours between 7pm and 7am.
Responsibilities- Respond to emergency situations and provide safety and security for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Patrol facilities and grounds with the K9 to maintain a safer environment, enforce parking regulations, and monitor traffic.
- Investigate incidents, complete written reports, and maintain accurate logs of security activities and K9 training records.
- Operate and maintain alarm systems, perform pick‑ups from departments, escort patients and staff, and assist clinical staff with room searches and patient restraint when necessary.
- Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to all safety and competency requirements throughout the shift.
- Complete defensive tactics, OC pepper spray, and non‑violent crisis intervention training annually.
- Support the supervisor by orienting new officers, assisting investigations, and participating in special projects.
- Provide daily care for the K9, including feeding, exercising, grooming, medical care, and kennel maintenance.
- Report directly to the Security Supervisor or manager/director and interact with internal staff and external law‑enforcement agencies as needed.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Completion of a Banner Health approved K9 training program within three months of hire.
- National Police Canine Association (NPCA) Handler certification within 12 months, renewing annually.
- Valid driver’s license and eligibility under the company auto insurance policy.
- Three years of progressively responsible security or related experience.
- Demonstrated ability to meet specified physical requirements through a skills testing assessment.
- Proper facility and transportation for K9 care, including kennel storage.
- Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card (and Criminal History Affidavit for Banner Behavioral Health Hospital).
Signature of K9 Conditions Agreement, Education Loan Agreement, and Promissory Note upon hire.
- Experience in a health‑care setting.
- Experience as a law‑enforcement, military, or security K9 officer.
- Additional related education and/or experience.
