Security Personnel Job Description

Job Title: Security Personnel / Safety & Compliance Officer
Department: Operations
Reports To: Director of Operations or Designee
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The Security Personnel / Safety & Compliance Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment for clients, staff, visitors, and contractors at all Sanctuary Recovery Centers locations. This role focuses on proactive safety monitoring, de-escalation of behavioral situations, facility rounds, environmental hazard identification, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies, ADHS regulations, Joint Commission standards, and applicable state and federal requirements.

The Security Personnel serves as a visible presence throughout the facility, helping to prevent incidents before they occur, responding appropriately to safety concerns, and following through on identified issues until they have been fully resolved.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Safety and Security Monitoring
  • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled rounds throughout the facility to monitor client activity, safety concerns, and environmental conditions.
  • Ensure clients are located in authorized areas and following program rules and schedules.
  • Monitor entrances, exits, common areas, parking lots, and facility grounds.
  • Maintain awareness of client movement and report unauthorized absences or unusual activity immediately.
  • Assist staff with maintaining a secure and therapeutic environment.
De-Escalation and Crisis Response
  • Respond promptly to behavioral incidents, conflicts, and crisis situations.
  • Utilize approved verbal de-escalation techniques to reduce tension and prevent escalation.
  • Maintain a calm, professional, and non-threatening presence during challenging interactions.
  • Assist clinical and operational staff during emergency situations as directed.
  • Contact emergency services when necessary and in accordance with company protocols.
Environmental Safety and Hazard Prevention
  • Identify and address safety hazards throughout the facility.
  • Monitor for environmental concerns including:
    • Water spills or puddles
    • Slip, trip, and fall hazards
    • Damaged flooring, furniture, or fixtures
    • Blocked exits or hallways
    • Fire safety concerns
    • Broken equipment
    • Unsafe client behaviors
    • Security vulnerabilities
  • Take immediate corrective action when possible and report issues requiring maintenance or management involvement.
  • Follow up on identified hazards until they have been corrected and documented as resolved.
Compliance and Documentation
  • Ensure facility operations remain compliant with ADHS, Joint Commission, OSHA, and Sanctuary Recovery Centers policies and procedures.
  • Complete incident reports, safety reports, and documentation accurately and timely.
  • Maintain logs of rounds, observations, safety concerns, and corrective actions.
  • Report compliance concerns, policy violations, and safety risks to leadership immediately.
  • Participate in facility audits, inspections, and corrective action activities.
Client and Staff Support
  • Provide professional assistance to clients, visitors, and staff as needed.
  • Support staff in maintaining appropriate client boundaries and program expectations.
  • Assist with client transportation monitoring, visitor management, and facility access control when assigned.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and compliance throughout the organization.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in security, behavioral health, corrections, law enforcement, military, or a related field preferred.
  • Ability to effectively manage stressful situations and respond appropriately during emergencies.
  • Strong observation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional during crisis situations.
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License and acceptable driving record preferred.
  • Ability to successfully pass background screening requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in behavioral health, substance abuse treatment, or healthcare settings.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training or equivalent.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification.
