Maintenance Technician II

Location: Facilities & Construction
Duration: 12 months, 8 hours/day
Grade: 18, $17.99/hour
Start date: 02/17/2026

Five‑year clean driving record is required.

Purpose Statement

The Facilities & Construction Maintenance Technician II supports the educational process by maintaining facilities in safe operating condition, addressing immediate operational and safety concerns, and assisting higher‑level technicians with general maintenance assignments such as carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical, welding, locksmith, HVAC, generator preventive maintenance, grounds keeping, and ensuring tools and materials are available on site.

This position reports to the Lead Person, Tech III & Tech IV.

Essential Functions
  • Arrange furniture and equipment for special events.
  • Assist higher‑level technicians with transporting, securing materials, and completing tasks.
  • Attend meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars to gather necessary information.
  • Build items such as counters or temporary partitions to modify facilities.
  • Coordinate with lead, supervisor, and other trades to complete projects and work orders efficiently.
  • Maintain records for generator usage and filter replacement dates.
  • Maintain vehicle, tools, and equipment in safe operating condition.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on lighting, heating, ventilation, alarms, plumbing, security, and electrical panels.
  • Perform general grounds keeping, including mowing, lining athletic fields, and spreading wood chips.
  • Process written materials such as work orders for documentation.
  • Repair equipment, systems, and structural items to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Request equipment and supplies to ensure availability for installations and repairs.
  • Service locks, adjusting, fixing, or replacing batteries.
  • Transport tools, equipment, and supplies to job sites.
Other Functions

Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Operate equipment used in skilled trades and power/hand tools.
  • Adhere to safety practices and handle hazardous materials.
  • Perform basic math calculations, understand written procedures, and speak clearly.
  • Understand complex written and oral instructions and standard methods and materials used in the trade.
  • Schedule activities, collate data, and use job‑related equipment.
  • Work flexibly with others, utilize defined processes, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Problem‑solve to identify issues and select action plans, including mechanical aptitude and working under time constraints.
Responsibilities

Working under direct supervision using standardized procedures, providing information and/or advising others, with some opportunity to effect the organization’s services.

Work Environment

Physical demands include significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. The job requires approximately 20% sitting, 30% walking, and 50% standing, performed under temperature extremes and potential risk of injury or illness.

Experience and Education

Job‑related experience is required.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.
