MMI Industrial & Steel, a prominent leader in the steel fabrication industry, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Steel General Foreman to oversee our structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects. This full-time position, based at our field operations in Mesa, Arizona, offers the opportunity to play a crucial role in our dynamic field operations team. This role is not eligible for remote work as the nature of the job requires physical presence at various jobsites.
As a Steel General Foreman at MMI Industrial & Steel, you will provide essential leadership and oversight, ensuring that structural steel and miscellaneous metals work is carried out efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards of quality. You will directly supervise multiple foremen and field crews, coordinate with project managers, and ensure that all activities conform to project specifications and company policies.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Oversee multiple ironworker crews performing structural steel and miscellaneous metals work.
- Supervise and support foremen in daily planning and crew coordination.
- Plan and allocate manpower, equipment, tools, and materials.
- Conduct daily work planning and short-interval scheduling.
- Mentor and develop field leaders and crew.
- Enforce accountability for safety, productivity, quality, and reporting requirements.
- Supervise erection of structural steel systems, pipe racks, equipment supports, and related structures.
- Oversee installation of stairs, platforms, ladders, handrails, guardrails, grating, embeds, and specialty metals.
- Ensure proper layout, alignment, bolting, welding, and installation.
- Coordinate cranes, lift plans, and rigging operations.
- Manage punch list completion and final inspections.
- Promote and enforce company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
- Conduct daily pre-task planning, toolbox talks, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
- Ensure compliance with fall protection, PPE, welding safety, and rigging standards.
- Attend safety meetings, audits, and incident investigations.
- Lead by example to maintain a safety-first culture.
- Coordinate with Superintendents, Project Managers, inspectors, and trades.
- Support manpower forecasting and short-term look-ahead planning.
- Assist in sequencing work to maintain the project schedule.
- Identify risks early and escalate concerns as needed.
- Use approved mobile devices and software for daily reporting, manpower logs, timekeeping, and production tracking.
- Review and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, RFIs, and specifications in both print and digital formats.
- Submit accurate, timely daily field reports.
- 8+ years of structural steel and miscellaneous metals experience.
- 3+ years in a Foreman or General Foreman role.
- Strong working knowledge of structural steel erection, rigging and crane operations, welding and bolting, and miscellaneous metals installation.
- OSHA knowledge required (OSHA 30 preferred).
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass background screening.
- Willing to work extended hours, weekends, and travel as required.
