We are seeking a Refrigeration Start-up Technician responsible for start-up and energy optimization of supermarket refrigeration, heating, and ventilation equipment to meet customer needs efficiently, accurately, and on time. The ideal candidate should have knowledge of advanced solid state controls, oil systems safety controls, mechanical sub-cooling, head pressure controls for energy reduction, energy management systems (EMS), refrigeration rack oil systems, advanced defrost diagnosis, and single and parallel compressor system start-up in a supermarket environment.
The technician should possess a journeyman-level skill set, including experience in installing refrigeration systems with electrical, plumbing, and fixtures. The technician will serve as a subject matter expert for energy optimization processes, procedures, and projects.
- Perform evacuations of parallel racks after pressure tests verification.
- Complete EMS wiring and programming for various manufacturers.
- Conduct full start-up of new parallel refrigeration systems and individual systems.
- Lead small projects such as single case and condenser replacements.
- Assist with energy optimization projects, including retro-commissioning, EMS upgrades, leak detection, and gas conversions.
- Collaborate with local branch service and construction managers to resolve issues, train junior technicians and foremen, and support other areas as needed.
- Extensive knowledge of refrigeration, ice machines, and electrical systems.
- Proficiency with supermarket refrigeration systems, including single and parallel rack systems, display cases, and walk-ins.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for commercial refrigeration equipment.
- Expertise in EMS systems wiring and programming (CPC, Novar, Danfoss).
- Mechanical aptitude and good communication skills.
- Ability to read blueprints related to refrigeration, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Effective multi-tasking and organizational skills.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record.
- Willingness to travel, work overnight, and overtime as necessary.
- High school diploma or GED; vocational or trade school coursework preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience with supermarket EMS systems; EMS certification preferred.
- 5-7 years of experience in commercial refrigeration, especially with parallel rack systems.
