LeadMobile Diesel Technician
The Lead Mobile Diesel Technician is responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, and a broad range of light to advanced repairs, including mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic diagnostics. This role requires mastery of most technical disciplines, advanced diagnostics, and customer interaction. The technician leads jobsites, mentors and trains other technicians, and acts as Mobile Technician Manager when required.
Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile field environment.
- Conduct minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment such as electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment, utilizing test instruments like handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and produce accurate solutions.
- Manage parts inventory and reconcile company‑issued service truck equipment.
- Maintain and operate the company service vehicle, including safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Communicate effectively with clients to assess needs, provide assistance, and resolve issues.
- Prioritize tasks and manage time allocations for concurrent duties.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lift and jacks.
- Document work and upload pictures, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using company iOS devices and the TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation on time.
- Work independently and manage daily schedule.
- Maintain high productivity and work within or close to standard repair times.
- Source parts from approved vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management for approvals and purchase order information.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Support Mobile Diesel Technicians I/II/Sr in inventory reconciliation.
- Mentor technicians on best practices to meet standard repair times.
- Assist Mobile Tech Manager with quality‑control inspections of work performed by junior technicians.
- High School Diploma/GED and 7 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and 5–9 years of related experience.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
- Obtain or be willing to obtain the following certifications within eighteen (18) months of employment:
- ASE T8 (PMI)
- ASE C1 (Service Consultant)
- 608/609 Certification
- Must pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or meet the medical card condition described).
- Must be 21 years or older, hold a valid driver’s license, and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
