Position Summary
An Electrical Service Technician resolves issues related to electrical devices, fixtures, and distribution equipment for commercial and industrial customers. The technician identifies and fixes faults, installs new equipment, and conducts tests to ensure proper operation.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities- Maintain, install, and repair electrical systems and equipment, including wiring, transformers, switch gear, motors, and other components.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues and recommend solutions.
- Read and interpret blueprints.
- Track rental equipment and call off when appropriate.
- Coordinate manpower needs with the Service Superintendent.
- Communicate service calls, project status, labor hours, and material needs to leadership.
- Obtain prior approval from supervisor for all overtime work.
- Identify customers' electrical needs beyond the original service request.
- Install electrical systems in compliance with industry code and regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure safety regulations and standards are followed.
- Train and mentor apprentices and other electricians.
- Maintain accurate records of electrical work performed.
- Promote company culture and a positive work environment while adhering to company values.
- Promote a “safety first” workspace.
Skills and Abilities
- Completion of a certified apprenticeship program or at least four years of prior experience in commercial electrical installation.
- Thorough knowledge of electrical systems and equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical issues.
- Sense of urgency and commitment to safety.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge of alternate installation methods and wiring systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- In-depth knowledge of NEC chapters 1‑9 and ability to navigate and apply code effectively.
- Proficiency in using tools, equipment, and technology related to electrical work.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Physical ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in extreme weather conditions.
- Experience working in and around restricted/ confined spaces.
- Commitment to a minimum 40‑hour work week.
Completion of a certified apprenticeship program or at least four years of prior experience in commercial electrical installation.
