Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
We are seeking an experienced Lead Heavy Equipment Mechanic to manage the maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of a civil construction equipment fleet in Phoenix, AZ. This hands‑on leadership role is responsible for diagnosing mechanical issues, coordinating equipment repairs, and ensuring the fleet remains reliable for daily construction operations. This position is well suited for a mechanic who enjoys both hands‑on repair work and leadership responsibilities within a fast‑paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and guide the mechanic assistant to ensure shop tasks are completed efficiently
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of heavy construction equipment and machinery
- Perform preventative maintenance services to ensure equipment reliability and longevity
- Respond to field service requests and conduct repairs at job sites when necessary
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop and yard environment - Manage parts ordering and maintain inventory for tools, supplies, and replacement components
- Document all equipment maintenance and repair activities in fleet service records
- Communicate maintenance schedules, repair progress, and potential delays with supervisors
- Support fleet management activities including equipment acquisition, disposal, or upgrades
- Assist with additional operational tasks as required to support construction crews
- Proven experience maintaining and repairing heavy construction equipment or diesel‑powered machinery
- Strong troubleshooting and mechanical diagnostic abilities
- Ability to work independently while also supervising support staff
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong communication skills for coordinating with supervisors and field crews
- Ability to respond to local field service calls when required
- Ability to work onsite in Phoenix, AZ
- Full‑time onsite position based in Phoenix, AZ
- Combination of shop‑based mechanical work and field service repairs
