Job Summary

McCarthy Building Companies is seeking a Journey worker to perform welding and pipe fitting duties in Phoenix, AZ. Candidates must have experience in both disciplines and be flexible to switch between plumbing and pipe fitting tasks based on project demands.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate understanding of company safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Apply comprehensive knowledge of piping materials, including steel, copper, PVC/PCV, poly, stainless steel, and aluminum.
  • Execute technical tasks under direct supervision.
  • Coordinate tasks within defined responsibilities and established procedures.
  • Contribute to team efforts under general supervision of senior professionals.
  • Use reliable judgment to resolve issues and make recommendations.
  • Mentor and direct apprentices to promote a positive learning environment.
  • Perform testing, inspection, and record-keeping.
  • Maintain all tools and equipment in serviceable condition.
  • Use materials and resources conservatively to support project success and profitability.
  • Install all systems and products per code, specifications, submittals, and contract documents.
  • Provide timely input to maintain current “As-Built” record drawings.
Qualifications
  • Licensed pipefitter preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years experience in plumbing and pipe fitting.
  • Experience with copper, PVC, and cast‑iron installations and piping.
  • Experience with refrigerant piping and medical gas preferred.
  • Med Gas Certification preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to accurately layout building systems.
  • Management experience and ability to train apprentice tradesmen.
  • Understanding of OSHA regulations and IPC/UPC building codes.
  • Own hand tools required.
  • Reliable transportation to job site.
  • Self‑motivated and collaborative.
  • Good problem‑solving skills.
  • Pay determined by knowledge and experience.
