Access Control Technician (Travel Role)
Location:
Phoenix, AZ (initial project)
Travel: 75–90% (extensive multi-state travel required)
Position OverviewWe are seeking a skilled Access Control Technician to support upgrades to Physical Access Control Systems (PACS) across electrical substations, switchyards, and facilities throughout multiple western states. This role begins with a project based in Phoenix, AZ, with future assignments in locations such as Las Vegas, NV or Denver, CO.
This is a road warrior position, requiring frequent travel (including weekends) and adaptability to new project sites.

- Perform duties as an Access Control Technician on assigned projects independently or in small teams
- Install, upgrade, and maintain physical security systems across facility sites
- Work with government stakeholders on security system modernization initiatives
- Install systems in accordance with DoD and DoS standards and requirements
- Read and interpret electrical, electronic, and electro‑mechanical schematics
- Follow installation guidelines and interpret blueprints and construction plans
- Use diagnostic tools such as multimeters and cable testers (Fluke, Klein, Ideal, etc.)
- Install, test, maintain, and troubleshoot security wiring, power circuits, and low‑voltage systems
- Ensure compliance with National Electrical Code (NEC) standards
- U.S. Citizenship (must be able to obtain and maintain a clearance)
- Valid driver’s license (driving company vehicles may be required)
- Minimum 2 years of experience with Lenel systems (installation, configuration, troubleshooting)
- Minimum 2 years of experience with:
- Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS)
- Physical Access Control Systems (PACS)
- IP-based video surveillance systems
- High school diploma (or equivalent) OR military technical training
- In lieu of training: 5+ years of relevant technical experience
Hands‑on experience installing and maintaining:
- Intrusion Detection Systems
- Access Control Systems
- CCTV and IP Camera Systems
- Intercom and Mass Notification Systems
- Conduit and Low Voltage Electrical Systems
- Ability to use test equipment and produce site documentation
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
- Familiarity with:
- Security platforms (Lenel, Software House, Milestone)
- IP CCTV systems
- Electronic locking systems (strikes, magnetic locks, etc.)
- DoD/DoS security standards
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently
- Ability to travel 75%+ of the time
- Lift up to 50 lbs
- Perform physical tasks including:
- Climbing, kneeling, crouching, and reaching
- Standing and walking for extended periods
- Work in varied environments (indoor/outdoor, extreme heat/cold, noise exposure)
This role involves working at active infrastructure sites and may include exposure to:
- Outdoor elements and varying weather conditions
- Construction and industrial environments
- Physically demanding tasks and tight project deadlines
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $38.00/hr.
