Summary: The job of Maintenance Worker – Skilled is performed to maintain facilities in safe operating condition, maintain a preventive maintenance program, document information, and resolve immediate operational and safety concerns.

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent
• Job-related experience within specialized field
• Social Security Card
• Proof of immunity to Measles and German Measles

• Fingerprint/background clearance (upon employment)

These qualifications may be modified by the superintendent/designee as appropriate.

• Attends meetings as assigned for gathering information required to perform functions.
• Coordinates with other staff for completing projects/work orders efficiently.
• Designs systems and/or projects to meet district maintenance and facilities needs.
• Directs maintenance workers, custodians and general helpers (days) to maximize workforce efficiency and meet shift requirements.
• Inspects facilities, systems and machinery requiring skilled maintenance trades (e.g., electrical, HVAC, plumbing, security) to identify potential repairs and provide preventive maintenance.
• Installs machinery and equipment requiring skilled maintenance trades to maintain facilities in a safe, comfortable and operating condition.
• Prepares documentation to provide written support and/or convey information.
• Procures equipment, supplies and materials to maintain availability of required items and complete jobs efficiently.
• Repairs systems requiring maintenance trade skills (e.g., electrical, HVAC, plumbing, electronics, locksmith, mechanical) to maintain facilities and vehicles in safe, comfortable and operating condition.
• Requests quotes to provide cost information, purchase and secure items.
• Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.
• Transports various items (equipment, supplies) to provide materials at job sites as required to complete tasks.
• Assembles furniture and equipment to provide items in working condition.
• Assists other personnel as required to support them in completing their work activities.
• Performs such other duties and assumes responsibilities as assigned by the superintendent/designee.

Skills: Ability to perform multiple technical tasks, upgrade skills as needed and follow safety practices.

Knowledge: Understanding of algebra/geometry, reading technical information, and analyzing situations to define issues.

Abilities: Scheduling, collecting and classifying data, working independently and collaboratively, applying safety practices, communicating with diverse groups, and meeting deadlines and schedules.

Functional responsibilities include working independently under broad guidelines, directing other persons within a small work unit, and directing use of budgeted funds. Utilization of resources from other units is routinely required.

Physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and fine‑finger dexterity. Requires 20% sitting, 60% walking, 20% standing. Job performed under temperature extremes and hazardous conditions.
