POSITION SUMMARY

McCarthy Building Companies is looking for a skilled Journeyman Industrial Pipefitter for our Water/Wastewater treatment projects. The ideal candidate is local to the Mesa, AZ area and has a proven commitment to safety and the ability to work a full‑time schedule.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of multiple plumbing and piping system applications, including waste and vent, storm, domestic water, compressed air, condensate drain, natural gas, process utilities, fixtures, pumps, and related treatment plant systems
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of multiple material applications, including steel/carbon pipe, copper pipe, PVC/CPVC pipe, poly pipe, stainless steel pipe, and aluminum pipe
  • Perform process piping layout, routing, fitting, joining, and installation for raw water, chemical dosing, and pressurized high‑tolerance systems in accordance with code, specifications, submittals, and contract documents
  • Perform testing, inspecting, and recording for rough‑in installations and piping systems as required by building codes, project specifications, and job requirements
  • Set pumps and equipment as required for wastewater treatment plant installations
  • Position heavy mechanical apparatuses such as large industrial pumps, mixers, aeration blowers, and filter presses
  • Cut, bevel, and prepare multiple types of pipe, including PVC, CPVC, stainless steel, and carbon steel
  • Perform different types of offsets, including rolling offsets, 45‑degree offsets, and 22.5‑degree offsets
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) models to accurately layout building, process, and mechanical systems
  • Work to precise quality, pressure, and tolerance requirements to ensure mechanical systems meet operating demands and compliance standards
  • Coordinate individual tasks within an assigned scope of responsibility under established procedures
  • Contribute to a team environment under the general supervision of an experienced professional or manager
  • Exercise reliable judgment in resolving issues and making recommendations
  • Promote a positive learning environment by mentoring and directing apprentices
  • Understand and implement lockout/tag‑out procedures for safe and secure tasks
  • Maintain all tools and equipment in serviceable condition
  • Use materials and other resources conservatively to support project success and profitability
  • Participate in the orientation of new partners on the job site
  • Provide prompt and accurate input to maintain current as‑built record drawings
  • Demonstrate understanding of McCarthy Safety Guidelines, Procedures, and OSHA regulations
  • Identify potential issues during installation and elevate them to the Foreman or General Foreman
  • Communicate tool and material requirements to the supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5+ years of commercial plumbing and/or pipe fitting experience preferred
  • Previous water/wastewater treatment plant experience preferred
  • Ability to pass a pre‑employment plumbing or pipe fitting exam
  • Experience with copper, PVC, CPVC, cast‑iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel installations
  • Experience setting pumps and equipment preferred
  • Experience positioning heavy mechanical equipment preferred
  • Experience with process piping systems for raw water, chemical dosing, and high‑pressure applications preferred
  • Experience working from precise blueprints and VDC models preferred
  • Experience with refrigerant piping and medical gas preferred
  • Med Gas Certification preferred but not required
  • Basic understanding of IPC and UPC building codes
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications
  • Ability to accurately layout plumbing and piping systems
  • Ability to perform plumbing and piping tests
  • Ability to train and mentor apprentice tradespeople
  • Ability to create and maintain a safe working environment
  • Must have own basic hand tools
  • Must have reliable transportation to the job site
  • Self‑motivated with the ability to work well with others
  • Good problem‑solving skills
ADDITIONAL
  • Pay rate is determined by current level of knowledge and experience
  • $1.00 increase to base pay if licensed
