As our QC Manager, you'll play a critical role in upholding the standards our federal clients expect and our team takes pride in delivering. You'll own the full quality control process — from plan creation through project close-out — ensuring every phase meets contract requirements and reflects the Diamond West standard of excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Perform fusion splicing and mechanical splicing on multimode fiber
and single-mode fiber
. - Splice fiber optic cables into OPGW (Optical Ground Wire) systems on transmission lines and towers.
- Terminate all types of fiber connectors (LC, SC, ST, FC, MPO/MTP, etc.) using industry-standard tools and best practices.
- Conduct OTDR testing, power meter testing, and end-to-end link certification for multimode and single-mode fiber.
- Rack, stack, and install communications equipment (switches, routers, servers, patch panels, ODFs, etc.) in 19” and 23” racks.
- Dress, label, and manage fiber and copper cabling within racks and cable trays.
- Troubleshoot and repair fiber optic network issues, including attenuation, breaks, and dirty connectors.
- Read and interpret fiber optic schematics, blueprints, and installation drawings.
- Maintain detailed documentation of splicing records, as-built drawings, and test results.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, especially when working at heights, in confined spaces, or on live utility infrastructure.
- Travel to job sites as required (local and/or overnight).
- Minimum 3–5 years of hands‑on experience as a Fiber Optic Technician.
- Proven expertise in fusion splicing (preferred: Fujikura, Sumitomo, or similar splicers).
- Strong working knowledge of:
- OM1–OM5 Multimode fiber
- OS1–OS2 Single‑mode fiber
- OPGW fiber splicing and installation
- Full proficiency in fiber termination (pre‑terminated and field‑terminated connectors).
- Experience with racking, stacking, and provisioning of communications equipment in data centers, telecom huts, or central offices.
- Familiarity with OTDR, OLTS, VFL, and visual fault locators.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to work at heights (climbing towers/utility poles) and in various outdoor/field conditions.
- Fiber Optic Certification (FOA CFOT, CFOS, or equivalent) is highly preferred.
- Experience with utility‑scale fiber projects and OPGW specifically.
- Knowledge of grounding, bonding, and electrical safety practices.
- Basic understanding of networking and IP‑based communications equipment.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office, Visio, and fiber documentation software.
- Pole/tower climbing certification or bucket truck experience.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to climb ladders, towers, and work in confined spaces.
