Maintenance Technician IV
- Welder

12 months, 8 hours per day

Grade 28, $22.51 per hour

Non-interim Position

Need to provide a 5‑year driving history from AZ Department of Motor Vehicles.

Purpose Statement

The Facilities & Construction Maintenance Technician IV provides maintenance services, completing work order projects and performing skilled trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, ventilating, special systems, welding, locksmith, etc.), assisting other maintenance workers, and ensuring tools and materials are available at job sites.

This position reports to the Lead Person.

Essential Functions
  • Analyze blueprints, schematics, and drawings to determine efficient installation of new or upgraded systems.
  • Estimate labor and materials to obtain materials and assign tasks for job completion.
  • Fabricate equipment parts to meet specialty needs or replace unavailable parts.
  • Inform personnel of work‑order procedures and status to support decision‑making and compliance with building and safety regulations.
  • Install a wide variety of materials (carpet, tile, roofing, cabinetry, drywall, plumbing, insulation, glass, electrical, masonry, etc.) to provide enhancements or upgrades.
  • Maintain vehicle, tools, and equipment in safe operating condition; oversee other Maintenance Technicians.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance for ongoing facility function.
  • Execute journey‑level tasks in multiple trades (plumbing, painting, HVAC, carpentry, welding, refrigeration, special systems, carpet installation, sheet metal, etc.) within established timelines.
  • Prepare written records (repair status, activity logs, etc.) to document activities.
  • Repair facilities, equipment, and systems to ensure safety.
  • Transport tools, equipment, and supplies to satisfy job‑site material needs.
Other Functions
  • Attend educational seminars and meetings to maintain and upgrade job knowledge, skills, and address safety issues.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient unit operation.
Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Skills: Proficiency in carpentry, plumbing, and electrical trades; skillful use of hand and power tools; operation of equipment and machinery (saws, planes, drill presses, sanders, jack hammers, drills, sandblasters, forklifts); operation of motor vehicles as needed.

Knowledge: Algebra and geometry; ability to read technical information; understanding of trade practices and tools; knowledge of health and safety regulations; correct methods of storing equipment and materials; awareness of school building standards.

Abilities: Schedule activities and meetings; collect and analyze data; operate standardized equipment; work with diverse individuals; problem‑solve with data and equipment; follow directions; maintain records; work extended hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

Work under direct supervision using standardized routines; lead, guide, and/or coordinate others; occasionally utilize resources from other work units.

Work Environment

Physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling; frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; fine finger dexterity. No sitting, walking, or standing required. Work occurs under minimal temperature variations and risk of injury or illness.

Experience:

Job‑related experience within a specialized field required.

Education:

Targeted, job‑related education in relevant area.

Required Testing, Certificates and Licenses

Online Driver Training Certification, Commercial Driver's License (preferred), Driver's License & Evidence of Insurability, Forklift Certificate.

Clearances

Criminal Background Clearance;
Valid Arizona DPS Level I IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
