Akima Systems Engineering (ASE) is looking to hire several Electronics Technician with Security System experience. Candidates can be based out of our Denver, CO;
Phoenix, AZ; or Las Vegas, NV.
The teams will support the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) by traveling to various locations to provide support to the Physical Access Control System (PACS) at electrical substations, switchyards, and facilities throughout Arizona, California, Nevada, Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming.

Responsibilities- Serve as an Electronics Technician on assigned projects and work comfortably independently or with a small team.
- Work with federal agencies on the migration, upgrades, and installation of physical security infrastructure at various electrical substation facilities.
- Responsible for installing Electronic and Technical Security Systems to DoD and DoS specific guidelines and requirements.
- Read, interpret, and draw electrical, electronic, and electro‑mechanical schematics.
- Be familiar with and use test equipment such as multimeters and cable testers (e.g., Fluke, Klein, Ideal).
- Follow strict installation wiring guidelines and read building construction plans (blueprints).
- Be knowledgeable with National Electric Code (NEC) requirements and practices such as grounding and electrical safety.
- Perform maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, and testing of security wiring and power circuits.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen able to obtain and maintain a customer clearance (including a local and national background check).
- Current and valid driver’s license. This role may require that company vehicles are driven.
- 2+ years of hands‑on experience installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and servicing Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Physical Access Control (PACS), Internet Protocol (IP) video surveillance systems and other security systems.
- High School Diploma or equivalent; OR
- A graduate of military basic and advanced electronic or communication technician courses. (In lieu of military training, must have at least 5 years of technical experience with installation of electronics/electrical systems.)
- Must have experience as a technician with installation of electronics/electrical systems including, but not limited to:
- Intrusion Detection Systems.
- Access Control Systems.
- Closed‑Circuit Television.
- Security Cameras.
- Intercom Systems.
- Mass Notification Systems.
- Conduit Installation.
- Low Voltage Electrical Systems.
- Technical Demands:
- Be able to use basic test equipment and prepare site test data and documentation.
- Be able to work in a demanding, deadline‑driven environment, be detail oriented, and self‑motivated.
- Strong verbal communication skills to update clients as well as team members and lead on status.
- Be able to work independently or under limited supervision.
- Be able to install, test, and troubleshoot Electronic and Technical Security System equipment, read schematics and maintenance manuals.
- Work knowledge and familiarity with a multitude of systems including but not limited to:
- DoD and DoS Security Systems and requirements.
- Access Control and Intrusion Detection Systems such as Lenel, Software House, Milestone.
- IP CCTV Surveillance Systems such as Milestone.
- Mechanical and electromechanical locking systems (electronic strikes, locks, mag’s, etc.).
- Be proficient with Microsoft Office Products and Adobe Acrobat.
- Travel Requirements:
Varies but expected travel is to exceed 75%. - Must be able to reach, climb, stoop, and kneel up to 75% of the time.
- Repetitive motion, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, and visual acuity (depth perception).
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Moving around to accomplish tasks or from one worksite to another.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Subject to outside environmental conditions (extreme cold/heat), inside or outside noise levels.
- Travel away from home for periods of time including weekends.
