Position Summary
This Senior Plant Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative and corrective work on plant and facility infrastructure equipment, including boilers, chillers, cooling towers, emergency generators, medical gas systems, and associated controls. The role reviews construction and remodeling projects, ensures code compliance, monitors automated systems (fire alarms, elevators, medical gases), and coordinates with other trades to complete required tasks.
Core Functions- Inspect, service, and maintain facility utilities and systems, reporting needs to the Facilities Services Manager.
- Coordinate the preventative maintenance program for all utility and infrastructure systems, documenting progress and modifications.
- Work with other departments to meet maintenance, installation, and construction needs; negotiate priorities, plan work schedules, and assign jobs.
- Oversee and monitor outside mechanical and utility contractors to ensure compliance with hospital standards.
- Schedule and monitor utility and infrastructure maintenance, repair, and renovation work, including construction, installation, and commissioning activities.
- Provide instruction and training on infrastructure and utility hazards, safety, and operational best practices.
- Coordinate procurement of parts, materials, and supplies within budgetary constraints; maintain replacement schedules and records.
- Maintain records for facility compliance with all applicable authorities, attend annual code compliance and update training as required.
- Perform all duties independently under general supervision (no budgetary responsibilities).
- Three or more years of diversified experience as a plant mechanic, stationary engineer, boiler operator, or refrigeration mechanic.
- Advanced skills in plant operations and working knowledge of utility and infrastructure systems common to healthcare.
- Ability to exercise independent decision‑making, effective communication, and safe operation with infrastructure equipment.
- Current Boiler Operator’s License required if applicable to the state of employment (e.g., Colorado).
- Certification in Universal Refrigerant handling may be required.
- Proficiency in reading maintenance and construction documents and common office software.
- Valid driver’s license and eligibility for company auto insurance may be required for some facilities.
- Arizona employees must possess a Fingerprint Clearance Card and complete a Criminal History Affidavit upon hire.
- Prior construction experience.
- Three to five years of healthcare facilities services experience.
- Additional related education or experience is preferred.
