Grand Canyon University (GCU), located in Phoenix, Arizona, is an accredited private Christian university.
What you will do- Perform skilled painting work, including the preparation, patching, finishing, and maintenance of building structures, walls, woodwork, furniture, and equipment.
- Inspect work sites to determine materials, tools, and methods needed; follow plans, layouts, sketches, and color schemes.
- Mix and match pigments, stains, and varnishes to achieve the required color, tint, and texture.
- Assemble, build, and install scaffolding and related equipment as required by the scope of work.
- Use paint brushes, rollers, sprayers, sandpaper, steel wool, wire brushes, and other painting tools.
- Prepare surfaces by sanding, power sanding, using porta‑sanders, and applying appropriate fillers such as putty or plaster.
- Apply paints, stains, varnishes, enamel, or lacquer, and recommend additional personnel or contractors to meet completion targets.
- Protect university property by removing or covering furniture, fixtures, and equipment, and by erecting safe scaffolding.
- Restore work sites by removing scaffolding, cleaning masking materials, and returning furniture and equipment to their original locations.
- Perform preventive maintenance of tools and equipment, spot‑check condition, oil moving parts, and service as specified.
- Provide technical assistance in selecting new or replacement shop tools and equipment.
- Comply with federal, state, and university regulations concerning environmental protection, safety, and hazardous waste disposal.
- Contribute to an accident‑free environment by using protective equipment, following safety precautions, and reporting unsafe activity.
- Support overall Facilities Maintenance success by performing other essential duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Physical strength to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds independently; push and pull equipment, climb stairs, and walk long distances.
- Ability to read drawings, space plans, or blueprints with good spatial recognition.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work cohesively with team partners.
- Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as necessary.
- Knowledge of safety and security precautions and occupational hazards, and willingness to follow safety guidelines.
- Good customer service orientation.
- Ability to work efficiently, follow instructions, and adapt to changing priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Reliable, dependable, and self‑motivated.
- Must pass background checks.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Minimum one year of successful experience in the painting trade.
Completion of a painting vocational/technical program or a recognized apprenticeship in the painting trade is preferred.
Work Schedule40‑hour work week; overtime may be requested as needed.
