Job Description

Drives trucks requiring a Class A CDL including tractor trailers, lowboy/flatbed, and various semi-trailers to transport materials, merchandise, and equipment between various job sites. Includes driving and operating a water truck and/or water trailer for lift site preparation. Responsible for loading/unloading trucks, securing loads, making minor mechanical repairs, and maintaining the truck. Works with crane operators to position bomb proofs and blast shields, and collaborates with heavy equipment operators.

Assembles rigging to lift and move equipment or test-related material across the YPG Test Range or off-site locations. Selects appropriate cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves based on load weight and size. Attaches pulleys and blocks to overhead structures and connects loads to crane hooks. Directs bridge-or-gantry-crane operators or hoisting engineers to ensure worker and material safety using hand signals, loudspeakers, or telephone.

Sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment with hand and power tools. Splices rope and wire cables to repair slings and tackle. May direct workers to engage in hoisting machinery and equipment. Performs other duties as required to complete the assigned mission. This position is covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Qualifications Pay Rate: $33.64 per hour Education, Licenses, Certifications, and Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without special restrictions.
  • HAZMAT and Tanker endorsement.
  • Current National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) CCO Rigger and Signal person certification.
  • Two (2) years of experience assembling rigging to lift and move equipment or material.
  • Two (2) years of experience setting up, bracing, and rigging hoisting equipment using hand tools and power wrenches.
Job Skills Requirements
  • Basic knowledge, training, and experience sufficient to calculate loads, load weights, safe capacities, and apply rigging principles and procedures.
  • Understanding of equipment-operating characteristics, capabilities, and limitations with demonstrated competence through training and experience.
  • Ability to utilize rigging materials and principles.
  • Capability to safely inspect and perform rigging operations.
  • Effective communication with crane operator, lift supervisor, signal person, and affected personnel on site.
Physical Requirements
  • Pass pre-employment drug screening, DOT physical, and periodic retests.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for assigned tasks.
  • Work in extreme weather conditions, including summer temperatures up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Meet physical requirements outlined in the SOPs for the Maintenance Division.
  • Climb up into large vehicles up to 10 feet high.
  • Lift 75 lbs unassisted.
  • Perform kneeling, bending, and standing during rigging duties.

Additional Desirable Qualifications
  • One year of hands-on experience with crane signaling.
Terms of Employment & Eligibility Requirements
  • U.S. Citizen; cannot hold multiple citizen ships.
  • Valid driver’s license without special restrictions.
