ResponsibilitiesJob Summary
The Service Tech‑Level 5 is responsible for repairing and overhauling equipment, refrigeration, heating and ventilation equipment to ensure customer needs are met efficiently, accurately and on time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides service to the customer base by repairing and overhauling equipment such as compressors, water pumps, air handlers, electrical and mechanical control devices that exceed the customer’s expectations.
- Provides general repair work on refrigeration, heating and ventilation equipment, such as air conditioning units, evaporative condensers, ice machine equipment, water pumps, gas furnaces, compressors and electric motors.
- Provides preventative maintenance activities for customers by diagnosing equipment malfunction and any operating deficiency of the mechanical equipment to ensure quality work performance for the customer base.
- Provides department support by processing job tickets and work orders to the necessary department in a timely manner.
- Provides necessary training to new or less qualified technicians as needed.
- Maintains proper truck inventory continuously and drives company vehicle in a safe manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Course work at an accredited vocational, technical or trade school.
- 3 – 6 year’s experience in commercial HVAC, refrigeration, ice machine and gas furnace required.
- Must have passed Tech Skills Level 5 with an 80% or better.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must have a valid EPA certificate.
- Basic knowledge of refrigeration, HVAC, ice machines, gas furnaces, and electrical.
Work Experience & Skills
- Experience working on refrigeration equipment in convenience and supermarket stores.
- Knowledg(e) of refrigeration, HVAC, ice machines, gas furnaces, and electrical.
- Working knowledge of single systems, rack systems, display cases and walk‑in boxes.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair computer controls.
- Good mechanical skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with customers, and management.
- Ability to take direction from Sr. Specialist or Supervisor.
- Must have a good driving record and be able to work independently.
- Emergency on‑call availability is a basic requirement.
This position typically operates in convenience stores, grocery stores, food service and/or construction environments with need to work at heights from ladders and/or scissor lifts. Mechanical rooms can have elevated noise levels. The position regularly works near/with refrigeration/HVAC equipment that can expose the workers to extreme cold from refrigerant and high heat from brazing operations. This role routinely works in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust.
These conditions require employees to use the correct PPE and safe work practices.
This position is very active and requires excellent stamina to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
