SUMMARY:

Performs skilled welding and sheet metal work in the maintenance, fabrication, installation, and repair of buildings, facilities, equipment, and related components. Designs, fabricates, installs, and services metal products and structures using welding, cutting, and sheet metal fabrication techniques to support district operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Performs welding using oxygen-acetylene torch, electric arc, MIG, TIG, and related welding methods to fabricate, repair, and install metal structures, equipment, piping and other components as needed.

* Designs, fabricates, and installs sheet metal products and specialty steel items.

* Uses welding and fabrication equipment such as hand tools, benders, power tools grinders, saws, drills, punches, shears, buffers, levels, squares, hammers, and cutting equipment safely and effectively.

* Welds and fabricates in flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions using proper rods, materials, and techniques compatible with the metals being joined.

* Interprets blueprints, sketches, diagrams, specifications, and work orders to layout, measure, fabricate, and install metal products and structural components.

* Fabricates, repairs, and installs wrought iron fencing, partitions, hinges, brackets, railings, chain, and ornamental iron work.

* Assists other trades and departments with maintenance, construction, emergency repairs, and special projects as assigned.

* Maintains assigned equipment, tools, facilities, vehicles, and work areas in safe and operational condition.

* Maintains inventory, requisitions supplies and materials, estimates labor and material costs, and processes required paperwork and electronic work orders.

* Responds to emergency service calls and perform repairs as needed.

* Supports positive public relations by demonstrating professional and courteous behavior with students, staff, parents, visitors, and the community; maintains confidentiality; follows Governing Board policies and procedures; and performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:

High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND a Welding certification; AND four years of experience in welding, sheet metal, and related maintenance work; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

License and Certification Requirements:

* A valid Arizona State Driver's License is required.

* Ability to obtain and maintain District-provided vehicle certification and authorization to operate District vehicles.

* Must possess a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card within 90 days of employment.

* Welding certification is required at the time of hire.

* Ability to determine proper rods and fluxes for various types of metals.

* Skill in performing electric arc and oxygen-acetylene torch welding.

* Knowledge of and skill in installing and repairing sheet metal products.

* Skill in the use of tools and equipment related to sheet metal, HVAC, and welding.

* Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

* Skill in prioritizing and completing assignments.

* Skill in complying with safety policies, procedures, and practices.

* Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and procedures.

* Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

* Ability to provide excellent customer service and interact tactfully and courteously with the public.
