Job OverviewThe Reciprocating Compressor Service Technician serves customers by installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining our reciprocating compressor product lines including the Belliss & Morcom, and Pet Star large reciprocating air compressors along with additional compressed air system components. This involves supervision of the installation and startup of new equipment, on‑site major repairs, detailed troubleshooting, and any other phase of compressor repair. You will use precision measuring tools for diagnostic troubleshooting of compressed air equipment and must have knowledge of all operations and parts manuals associated with all equipment.
Responsibilities- Ensure the correct installation, maintenance, and field repair of the equipment manufactured and sold by Ingersoll Rand at the purchaser location.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of the field installation and repair requirements of this equipment.
- Provide technical advice and be able to train customers, potential customers, field salesmen, and field service trainees.
- Diagnose problems and recommend corrective action in an unsupervised environment, and submit clear, accurate records and/or oral reports to the manufacturing facility.
- Maintain a high degree of integrity in business affairs.
- Maintain proper written and oral communication skills to transfer information related to service work in a concise and logical manner.
- Submit detailed technical reports on each service call in legible fashion, suitable for billing.
- Submit accurate, detailed & timely expense account records along with timecards on a weekly basis; maintain good financial records and practices for credit cards and company vehicles if required.
- Maintain proper business travel practices in a cost‑efficient manner.
- Follow all company and departmental procedures and guidelines.
- Perform other duties as required.
- 3+ years of experience troubleshooting industrial/commercial mechanical systems.
- 1+ year of experience on compressed air systems;
Allen‑Bradley PLC controls background is a plus. - High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months with a clean driving record (no major or frequent violations such as DUI, hit‑and‑run, license suspension, reckless or careless driving, or multiple small infractions in the previous 3 years).
- Knowledge of service, diagnosis, and startup of rotary and centrifugal air compressors, including dryers, cooling towers, and filtration systems.
- Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic computer usage; proficiency with handheld devices (smartphone, iPad) and network basics.
- Customer service skills, e.g., conflict resolution, negotiation.
- Desired degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology with basic knowledge of AC/DC circuits, wiring diagrams/schematics, motors/controls, PLCs, refrigeration systems, and/or refrigerant certification.
- Military experience and/or significant mechanical work experience is a plus.
- EPA 608/F‑GAS 303/2008/CE/ISHRAE certification preferred.
- Extensive regional travel;
Monday‑Friday travel is typical.
Pay Range: Starting pay will range between $75,000.00 – $95,000.00 per year depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full‑time, salaried position.
