Grand Canyon University – HVAC Technician

Grand Canyon University (GCU) is a private Christian university located in Phoenix, Arizona. We are seeking a full‑time HVAC Technician for our Facilities Department. The position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating and air conditioning systems across the university.

Flexible availability is required. Scheduled work includes Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. or Sunday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

• Observe safety and security procedures and determine appropriate action beyond guidelines; report potentially unsafe conditions.
• Inspect and measure buildings to determine airflow requirements.
• Plan and draw layout and dimensions of duct work.
• Obtain price quotations on materials and purchase items such as sheet metal, compressors, and fans from suppliers.
• Test equipment to verify proper functioning.
• Schedule heating/air conditioning installation assignments.
• Examine installed heating/air conditioning systems to confirm system operation.
• Attend classes and seminars (classroom or online) on HVAC components and system design to update skills.
• Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.
• Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
• Maintain time and production records.
• Perform routine maintenance on residential and commercial systems.
• Repair or replace system components as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum 2 years of HVAC maintenance experience.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• HVAC technical certification preferred.
• Effective installation and troubleshooting of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration units.
• Proficient in balancing air and water treatment systems in accordance with HVAC protocols.
• Core understanding of diagnosing malfunctions and implementing corrective actions.
• Strong background in reading and interpreting instructions and safety procedures related to HVAC processes.
• Experience handling electronic and mechanical systems.
• Skills in installing and repairing pumps, motors, fan coils, and piping.
• Ability to perform preventative and general maintenance tasks on HVAC systems.
• Solid knowledge of using hand and power tools.
