Solar Installation Technician

Role Overview

As a Solar Installation Technician, you will assemble, install, and maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on roofs or other structures in compliance with site assessment and schematics. You will be part of a crew responsible for installing solar systems on residential homes.

Job Responsibilities
  • Work with a team to install the racking system and solar panels on residential roofs
  • Structurally mount racking and electrical equipment and effectively seal penetrations
  • Perform routine PV system maintenance on modules, arrays, batteries, power conditioning equipment, safety systems, structural or weather sealing, or balance of systems equipment
  • Ensure proper job documentation is completed once the job installation concludes
  • Interact with customers, answer and direct questions as needed
  • Read and review blueprints and plan documents
  • Install racking systems and modules, run conduit and wiring on roofs
  • Apply weather seal, such as pipe flashings and sealants, to roof penetrations and structural devices
  • Configure electrical wiring of the solar system (AC and DC) per plans and local codes
  • Test operation or functionality of completed work
  • Demonstrate knowledge of OSHA standards related to photovoltaic installations and enforce safety practices and standards
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by Crew Lead and/or Regional Operations Manager
Required Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Technical/trade school training in solar or electrical systems is preferred.
  • 1 year of residential solar experience.
  • Ability to safely handle power tools and materials such as ladders, inverters, solar panels, panel boards, batteries, and other similar electrical equipment, lumber, roofing materials, etc.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to perform all installation duties of the Installer and Lead Installer.
  • Working knowledge of current NEC codes. Ability to interpret single‑line drawings and PV systems from roof to meter.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical principles as it pertains to solar interconnection/tie‑in and code, and how PV systems operate.
  • Understands interconnection activities and basic construction principles.
  • Adheres to company safety policies and procedures, including ability to identify and report safety hazards and to encourage safe work practices.
  • Experience with electrical panels, sub panels, MBD derate, conduit bending, relocating circuits, etc.
  • Knowledge of layout and assembly of solar modules/arrays and mounting hardware.
  • Must be able to successfully pass pre‑employment screening requirements (valid driver’s license and clean MVR).
  • Certified OSHA/OSHA
    10/30 preferred; OSHA preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Work within the safe range of equipment such as ladders and fall protection harnesses.
  • Work at heights, on roofs, and climb ladders daily.
  • Lift 50‑75+ lbs. routinely daily.
  • Work in 0‑100+ degree weather, wet and dry conditions.
  • Move around for prolonged periods, standing, kneeling, bending, squatting, and climbing ladders daily.
