Position responsible for managing the crew during the installation of a quality roof in a safe and efficient manner and ensuring the project is completed on time and under budget. This position is also responsible for performing roof inspections, safety inspections and overall knowledge of the job. The Foreman must understand the requirements of all major roofing types and should be well skilled in the management of roofing crews.
This position reports directly to a Superintendent. This position is an hourly, non‑exempt position.
Duties and Responsibilities- Conduct the daily onsite safety brief prior to the start of the job/project with the Account Manager and Superintendent. Inspect and ensure all surroundings, equipment and tools and identify and discuss any safety concerns. Complete the Daily Safety Sheet form and submit to the Supervisors as applicable.
- Maintain employee and site safety in OSHA compliance.
- Proper installation of all new roofing systems exactly as specified.
- Direct the crew; instruct employees, assign and allocate work.
- Document project progress and activities.
- Responsible for crew production and quality of workmanship.
- Maintain good customer relations.
- Requisition additional materials.
- Responsible for company‑issued equipment.
- Evaluate roof mechanics and helpers/laborers.
- Ensure all project communication is completed prior to the start of any project, including communication with the Superintendent for daily/weekly schedules, with crew members to discuss scope of work and daily tasks, and with the Superintendent on schedule changes, project and crew updates.
- Efficient project management: manage crew start and end times, production rates, and ensure tools and materials are available to safely and efficiently complete the assigned project. Complete the project per the scope or specification.
- Complete an end‑of‑day and/or end‑of‑project walk‑through to ensure quality repairs and address any items prior to leaving the job site. Send before and after pictures to the Account Manager/ Superintendent and provide daily project status updates, including detailed work performed, materials consumed, and supplies purchased.
- Ensure all crew have a professional appearance.
- Any customer interaction by a crew member or the Foreman is relayed to the Superintendent immediately.
- Responsible for ordering, tracking, and monitoring inventory.
- Manage, monitor and document performance of Journeymen and Laborers and take appropriate corrective measures to resolve employee and work‑related issues. Consult with the Superintendent and Human Resources as needed.
- Perform any other duty or project as required or assigned by the Superintendent, Regional Branch Manager, or COO.
- High school diploma/GED.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience with commercial high and low‑slope roofing.
- Thorough familiarity with SP (EPDM, TPO, PVC), BUR, foam, shingle, tile and metal roofing systems.
- Completion of an apprenticeship program.
- Experience managing crews.
- Valid driver’s license and eligibility to work in the U.S.
- Highly motivated self‑starter eager to accept challenges and driven to achieve results.
- Detail oriented and able to multitask efficiently in a stressful, fast‑paced environment.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings.
- High ethical standards, honesty, integrity and professionalism.
Must be able to work in an environment where there may be regular exposure to noise, odors, fumes, temperature fluctuations and other conditions associated with the roofing industry. Must lift a minimum of 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and have vision abilities including distance, close, color, depth, and peripheral vision, as well as the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms.
Must be able to climb ladders and work at varying heights and in all weather conditions.
