SUMMARYThe HVAC Maintenance Mechanic maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs District HVAC systems to provide a comfortable and efficient learning environment for students, staff, and community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Performs scheduled, routine preventive maintenance on a variety of air handling equipment; changes air filters, lubricates fan coil units, and air handlers.
- Checks belts on air handler units, fan coil units, coolers, and exhaust fans periodically; replaces or adjusts as needed.
- Inspects, adjusts, cleans, and maintains HVAC equipment to ensure it is in satisfactory working order.
- Troubleshoots electrical and pneumatic controls for proper operation.
- Prepares air handling unit for summer seasonal use by cleaning, sealing, checking pumps, motors, belts, and water distributor, and changing cooler pads.
- Replaces worn shaft bearings on coolers, air handlers, exhaust fans, and air compressors. Repairs or replaces burned motors and pumps.
- Delivers supplies and parts to campuses to include filters and belts, as needed.
- Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation, Training, and Experience Guidelines: High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND four years of general electrical or HVAC maintenance and repair experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Possess an Active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card or obtain one within the first 90 workdays of employment.
License and Certification Requirements: A valid Arizona State Driver's License is required. Must possess an active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card or obtain one within the first 90 workdays of employment.
IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWINGSKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of and skill in troubleshooting and repairing HVAC equipment.
- Knowledge of advanced principles of air conditioning, heating and cooling and the equipment and tools to maintain them.
- Skill in prioritizing and completing assignments with minimum supervision.
- Ability to comply with safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to provide excellent customer experiences, including but not limited to interacting tactfully and courteously with the public.

Work is performed throughout campuses and District facilities, both indoors and outdoors. Work requires exposure to hot and cold temperatures, potentially dangerous tools and equipment, and hazardous chemicals. Physical ability to perform all of the essential functions (e.g. stand, turn, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, lift, push, pull, and work at heights, climb ladders). May be required to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
