Summary:

Serves as a certified trades worker in an area of specialty to ensure proper installation, modification, and repair of related systems.

Facilities Management, Downtown Phoenix campus, seeks General Maintenance Mechanics with maintenance backgrounds in institutional, commercial/industrial general maintenance settings to perform general maintenance of university buildings.

This position is based on the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus, but may require working at other ASU campus locations based on program need.

Electrical maintenance duties for 120 and 277 volts:

• Maintenance and repair of lighting, ballast, lighting switches, receptacles, sockets, and diffusers
• Perform electrical troubleshooting utilizing multimeters, voltage detectors, and circuit tracers

Plumbing maintenance duties:

• Plumbing repair and maintenance of public restrooms, labs, kitchens, and other areas
• Maintain and rebuild water closet flushometers, urinal flushometers, and various faucets and under‑sink supplies
• Clear all types of drain clogs and stoppages
• Maintain public restroom toilet and urinal partitions and replace related hardware

Carpentry maintenance duties:

• Maintenance and adjustment of automatic door closers
• Interior and exterior door preventative maintenance and replacement of hardware such as flush bolts, handles, kick plates, strikes, hinges, closers, weather stripping, smoke seals, and sweeps
• Repair and replace various flooring types
• Maintain and replace damaged suspended ceiling systems and ceiling tiles
• Small drywall repairs, including paint touch‑up

• First response to elevator trouble calls and basic troubleshooting of elevator door problems
• Utilize electronic work order systems in response to maintenance requests
• Use various hand tools, power tools, and equipment
• Maintain daily logs and records with computers or tablets
• Interact effectively with customers and students of diverse backgrounds
• Work within a team environment and contribute to team goals

Monday-Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm

This position may require working at other ASU campus locations based on department needs.

$21.49 per hour. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the state of Arizona.

• Must have two years of general maintenance and repair experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education
• Experience in a maintenance capacity in hospitals, schools, large manufacturing, or commercial/industrial facilities
• Experience in electrical maintenance and repair of hospitals, schools, or large manufacturing and commercial/industrial facilities
• Experience in 120/277 V electrical maintenance and repair
• Experience in plumbing maintenance and repair of hospitals, schools, or large manufacturing and commercial/industrial facilities
• Experience in carpentry maintenance and repair of hospitals, schools, or large manufacturing and commercial/industrial facilities
• Experience using electronic work order systems in response to maintenance requests
• Evidence of effective communication skills

• Drive university vehicles
• Maintain written daily logs and records
• Use specific hand tools and equipment related to essential duties
• Carry up to 100 pounds
• Stand, lift, bend, stoop, kneel to work under sink
• Work off ladders, scaffolding, and single‑man lifts up to 40 ft
• Wear personal protective equipment (safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, respirator)
• Work with team members, prioritize assignments, and work within guidelines
• Push or pull approximately 200–300 pounds maintenance carts to transport tools and equipment throughout campus
• Potential exposure to asbestos

Driving is not required for this position.
