Field Service Engineer I - AMHS Sustaining Team
Job Description
This Field Service Engineer role focuses on maintaining and supporting Automated Material Handling Systems (AMHS) and related industrial automation equipment in a clean room environment. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, diagnose complex electromechanical and software issues, and help ensure maximum equipment uptime and reliability. The position combines hands-on technical work, detailed documentation, and close collaboration with engineering teams, coworkers, and customers.
Responsibilities
+ Perform preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and system repairs on Automated Material Handling Systems (AMHS) and related automated equipment.
+ Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, and software-related equipment issues to restore equipment to full operation.
+ Analyze system logs, alarms, and error reports to identify root causes of equipment failures and recurring issues.
+ Verify software revisions, system configurations, and equipment status during maintenance and troubleshooting activities.
+ Install, configure, and validate hardware and software updates on supported equipment and subsystems.
+ Use technical documentation, schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, maintenance procedures, and service manuals to perform accurate and efficient repairs.
+ Support sustaining activities to maximize equipment uptime, reliability, and overall performance of AMHS and automation systems.
+ Escalate complex hardware and software issues to engineering teams and assist with data collection, diagnostics, and troubleshooting efforts.
+ Complete factory training and certification requirements on multiple AMHS platforms and subsystems to maintain technical proficiency.
+ Accurately document maintenance activities, repairs, troubleshooting actions, and equipment status in service reports and logs.
+ Collaborate verbally with coworkers and customers to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a clear and professional manner.
+ Use precision measuring tools, basic hand tools, and electrical diagnostic instruments safely and effectively during service tasks.
+ Travel to customer or equipment sites as needed to perform field service, installation, and sustaining activities.
+ Deliver excellent customer service by communicating clearly, setting expectations, and ensuring customer satisfaction with service outcomes.
Essential Skills
+ At least 12 months of hands-on technical experience troubleshooting, maintaining, installing, or repairing industrial equipment, automation systems, semiconductor equipment, robotics, or electromechanical systems (excluding internships, school projects, and academic lab work).
+ At least 6 months of experience verbally troubleshooting with a coworker or customer to resolve technical issues.
+ At least 12 months of professional experience through an associate degree program, technical certification, military technical training, or equivalent hands-on experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electronics, or a related field.
+ Ability to troubleshoot and repair automated manufacturing equipment, robotics, conveyors, AMHS, semiconductor equipment, PLC-controlled systems, or industrial automation.
+ Mechanical knowledge and experience working with electromechanical systems, including mechanical assemblies and moving components.
+ Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and mechanical drawings.
+ Basic knowledge of electrical diagnostic instruments and shop/hand tools, including safe and effective use.
+ Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot electromechanical devices, sensors, motors, drives, pneumatics, and motion control systems.
+ Familiarity with Windows-based systems, device communications, and basic networking concepts.
+ Experience using diagnostic tools such as multimeters, laptop-based service software, and log analysis tools.
+ Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues in automated equipment.
+ PC skills, including proficiency with MS Office, Excel, and Windows operating systems.
+ Ability to work flexibly, maintain attention to detail, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
+ Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate as a reliable team player.
+ Excellent customer satisfaction and communication skills, including clear verbal and written communication.
+ Valid driver's license and ability to obtain all necessary travel documentation.
