Position Title: Equipment & Fleet Mechanic

Reports To: Director of Fleet & Equipment Management

Department: Fleet & Equipment

FLSA Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Job Summary

The Shop Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and servicing a variety of landscaping equipment and vehicles. This role ensures that all machinery is in optimal working condition to support the company's landscaping operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance on landscaping equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and chainsaws.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on equipment and vehicles, including brakes, tires and batteries.
  • Conduct inspections to identify potential problems and prevent breakdowns.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work.
  • Order and manage inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.

Duties

  • Inspect and test equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Replace or repair parts, such as engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform welding and fabrication tasks as needed.
  • Keep the shop area clean and organized.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to prioritize repairs and maintenance tasks.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification in automotive or small engine repair is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a mechanic, preferably with landscaping equipment.
  • Experience with both gas and diesel engines.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic systems and electrical troubleshooting.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish preferred.

Qualifications
  • Proven experience in equipment and vehicle maintenance.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of trailers, light trucks, and small equipment.
  • Ability to perform basic electrical troubleshooting and wiring repairs.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift and transport equipment and parts as required.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
