Overview

As a Data Center Field Service Engineer, you will support commercial customers across North America delivering startup, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and emergency response of cooling infrastructure.

Where the Work Is Conducted

Field‑based – on‑site at customer locations. Requires travel of 75%+ within the United States and may include international trips.

Key Responsibilities
  • Travel to and support data center cooling infrastructure across North America.
  • Diagnose and repair complex HVAC and chiller systems, including air‑cooled and water‑cooled equipment.
  • Support field activities involving screw and centrifugal compressor technologies.
  • Respond to critical service events, equipment failures, and customer emergency situations promptly.
  • Assist with system performance evaluations, root‑cause analysis, and reliability improvement efforts.
  • Maintain accurate service records, field reports, and related documentation.
  • Follow all company safety policies, customer site requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, contractors, project teams, and internal stakeholders.
  • Perform startup, troubleshooting, repair, and operational support for data center cooling equipment.
  • Verify proper system operation following maintenance and repair activities.
  • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance according to company standards.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in the HVAC industry in mission‑critical, large‑tonnage, or complex chiller environments.
  • Strong knowledge of thermal cooling systems, including air‑cooled and water‑cooled chillers, pumps, hydronic systems, cooling towers, and mechanical equipment.
  • Hands‑on experience with startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and repair of mission‑critical cooling equipment.
  • Experience supporting screw and centrifugal compressor technologies.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues affecting cooling system performance.
  • Familiarity with commissioning processes, sequence of operations, equipment checkout, and performance verification.
  • Experience with equipment from Trane, York, Carrier, Daikin, Vertiv, Liebert, Stulz, and Johnson Controls.
  • Previous OEM training, factory startup experience, or field commissioning experience preferred.
  • 2+ year degree, technical certification, or equivalent training in HVAC, mechanical systems, electrical systems, or related field preferred.
  • Strong commitment to safety, documentation accuracy, and professional customer support.
  • Valid driver’s license; no major traffic violations.
  • Ability to travel 75%+ of the time.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • Operate vehicle safely with seat belt.
  • Wear helmets, safety goggles, fall protection harness, and safety boots.
  • Twist torso 90° in each direction, squat, touch floor with hands, reach over head.
  • Stand on concrete surfaces for up to 4 hours, lift or move up to 10 lb, frequently up to 40 lb, occasionally >40 lb.
  • Use ladder with 350 lb. weight limit carrying equipment ≤50 lb.
  • Maneuver confined access areas 30” × 45”.
  • Access rooftops 15‑20 ft, occasionally >50 ft; may encounter variable weather, heights, electrical shock risk, and noise.
Compensation & Benefits

Hourly base pay: $46.51 – $62.83. Base salary prorated for seniority, merit, geographic location, and travel.
