The Company

APEL Extrusions, Inc. is an independent extruder, finisher and fabricator of aluminum extrusions serving the commercial, residential, and industrial markets of Western Canada and the Western United States. With facilities in Calgary Canada, Coburg Oregon, and Phoenix Arizona, APEL Extrusions is fully integrated extruder with six extrusion presses, (2 in Calgary and 3 in Oregon and 1 in Phoenix) and a full array of finishing capabilities occupying over 600,000 square feet of modern manufacturing space employing approximately 250 people.

Job Summary

APEL Extrusions has an immediate requirement for a qualified Maintenance Technician at its Phoenix, AZ facility. Reporting to the Maintenance and Engineering Manager, the Maintenance Technician troubleshoots, repairs, installs, and maintains manufacturing equipment to maximize uptime, improve reliability, and support production operations. This position is available at the Technician II and Technician III levels based on experience and demonstrated multi-craft maintenance skills.

Competencies/Skills
  • Strong troubleshooting and repair skills in manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience in mechanical systems, including bearings, gearboxes, chains, belts, conveyors, and rotating equipment.
  • Experience in electrical systems, including motors, drives, sensors, controls, and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including valves, pumps, cylinders, and schematics.
  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting and basic controls diagnostics.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Fabrication and welding experience.
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems.
  • Ability to work safely at elevated heights and in confined spaces.
  • Strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
Job Duties /Responsibilities
  • Work on various projects involving fabrication, rebuilding parts, and inspecting machinery.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Help other maintenance and operational personnel as needed.
  • Operate a forklift and man lift.
  • Plumb air, oil, grease and water lines.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Work independently and as a team.
  • Strictly follow all safety rules and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Ability to safely work in confined spaces, at elevated heights, and around chemicals.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Millwright Certification.
  • Advanced electrical or controls training.
  • CMMS experience.
  • Industrial manufacturing experience in extrusion, plastics, or similar continuous-process environments.
Maintenance Technician II
  • Demonstrated strength in the following maintenance disciplines:
    • Mechanical Systems
    • Electrical Systems
    • Hydraulic/Pneumatic Systems
    • PLC Troubleshooting and Controls
  • Fabrication and repair experience preferred.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot and repair equipment within primary areas of expertise.
Maintenance Technician III
  • Demonstrated excellence in the following maintenance disciplines:
    • Mechanical Systems
    • Electrical Systems
    • Hydraulic/Pneumatic Systems
    • PLC Troubleshooting and Controls
  • Advanced troubleshooting capabilities across multiple systems.
  • Ability to diagnose complex equipment failures and mentor less experienced technicians.
  • Experience leading equipment repairs, root cause analysis, and reliability improvements preferred.
