Flood Control District

As a Water Instrument Technician, you’ll be at the heart of our mission. Working under general supervision, you’ll apply your technical skills to install, maintain, and repair high-precision hydrometeorology and environmental monitoring instruments.

The District operates a vast network of over 400 automated precipitation gauges across Maricopa and surrounding counties, capturing real-time rainfall data that’s essential for public safety, emergency response, and flood management.

This position requires regularly working at heights to access and service equipment, so a willingness and ability to safely work at elevated locations is essential. If you’re comfortable with heights, excited about technology, the environment, and serving your community, this role is for you!

• Two years of electronic and radio telemetric instrumentation experience
• High school diploma or GED
• Related post‑secondary education may substitute for experience on a year‑for‑year basis

• A valid Arizona Driver’s License issued by the State of Arizona or the ability to obtain within six months of hire
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of analog and digital electronics technology and VHF radio telemetry, and radio wave propagation
• Technicians must be able to perform and pass Basic First Aid and basic CPR, and pass Certification in First Aid, Trauma, and AED Training within six months of hire

• Experience installing, maintaining, repairing, calibrating, and modifying electronic, electromechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic sensory and control systems.
• Experience operating specialized electronic testing tools, diagnosing problems in sensory and control equipment, and recommending corrective action.
• Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of specialized software.
