The Psychiatrist POOL will be responsible for providing in-patient specialty psychiatric care to patients admitted to the Arizona State Hospital, including: performing diagnostic examinations, preparing court ordered evaluations and affidavits for civil mental health court, prescribing medications, developing behavioral plans, monitoring care and progress toward treatment and recovery goals; leading a multi-disciplinary team, overseeing the work of the team in developing and implementing a plan of care;
coordinating with outpatient teams, the patient, families and community providers to ensure a continuum of care for assigned patients; completing inpatient documentation and preparing reports for legal and administrative purposes; participating in hospital committees and in the development of policies and procedures and standards for mental health program services; collaborating with nurses, social workers, psychologists, rehabilitation staff, and other physicians and professionals including physician assistants and nurse practitioners.
- Performs diagnostic examinations, court order evaluations and affidavits, prescribes medications, and monitors care and progress of patients toward treatment and recovery goals.
- Conducts psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment of seriously mentally ill patients admitted to ASH.
- Provides leadership for a multidisciplinary treatment team and oversees the work of the team in developing and implementing a plan of care.
- Works with other professionals in the recovery model including nurses, social workers, psychologists, rehabilitation staff, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician's assistants.
- Attends hospital committees and medical staff meetings.
Completes required documentation, prepares reports for legal and administration purposes. Other duties are assigned as related to the position.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)- Standards of psychiatric care including detailed understanding of the process and standards for the diagnosis, treatment and management of mental disorders and current knowledge of evidence based treatment of psychiatric illnesses.
- Performance Management (PM), Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies.
- Psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacologic skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Work experience in leading a multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Organization and time management skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Maintain a positive and effective working relationship with all levels of hospital staff and other professionals.
