As an Advocate, you will provide professional support to crime victims. In this role, you will offer information and resources and assist victims in court by helping them assert their rights. You have an opportunity to advocate for those experiencing trauma and the complexities of the criminal justice system. To assist victims, advocates employ trauma-informed intervention techniques and serve as liaisons between the prosecutor and victims of crimes.

- Two years of experience with victim advocacy, social work, crisis intervention, or a related field
- Internal candidates with experience in positions such as Claims Specialist, Restitution Specialist, or Victim Assistance Specialist within the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office will have that experience counted toward the required two years of total experience
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, family studies, psychology, or other closely related behavioral or social science field
- Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a current, valid AZ Driver's License at time of hire
- Selected candidates must complete and pass a criminal background check. MCAO is also authorized to test prospective employees for the presence of illegally accessed drugs. Drug testing is conducted once an offer has been extended and before placement
- Experience in case management
- Experience working in a criminal justice system
- Public service experience working in an advocate-related capacity
- Bilingual skills in English and Spanish
- Provide information on the criminal justice system, victims' legal rights, and protections
- Provide information on the criminal justice process
- Attend court proceedings with, or on behalf of a victim, while providing support and in-depth guidance to empower victims to exercise their crime victims’ rights
- Identify resources for victims, assess the practical needs of victims, and make referrals to various social service agencies
- Assist the prosecutor with case turn-downs whenever practical
- Provide extensive crisis intervention/short-term counseling
- Research case status using numerous computer databases
- Manage large caseloads and document information
- Prepare reports and present findings
- Work in the presence of or with a trained canine that comforts victims
- Develop and maintain positive and productive working relationships with co-workers and crime victims using principles of good customer service
- Compliance with all Victim Services mandated requirements
- All actions, rights, and services are documented and timely in PbK
- All case management activities are recorded and entered in PbK
