Join Phoenix Children’s Cleft & Craniofacial Center as an Orthodontic Assistant and work with a highly specialized pediatric patient population alongside experienced orthodontists in a multidisciplinary clinic. The position is located at 124 W Thomas Rd Suite 320, Phoenix, AZ 85013.

This hands‑on role provides chairside orthodontic care, assists with specialized procedures and dental lab work, and supports children with cleft lip, palate, and other craniofacial conditions.

Schedule:

Monday‑Friday, 7:30 AM‑4:00 PM, St. Joseph’s Campus.

Qualifications:

• DANB-certified Orthodontic Assistant
• Orthodontic chairside experience, minimum 4 years
• Strong patient care and teamwork skills

• Perform daily chair procedures as directed by the Orthodontist:
  • Wire changes, reties, steel ties, c‑chains, and other orthodontic functions
  • Place separators and fit bands for appliance fabrication
  • Fit, fabricate, and deliver retraction and protraction headgear; understand indications
  • Bond/position brackets; take and pour diagnostic quality alginate impressions
  • Trim, label, and file study models after review; duplicate and fabricate baby trays and nasal stints; record lab cases
  • Expose and develop oral radiographs, download to database, and take intraoral and extraoral photographs; catalog and back up images
  • Assemble and maintain full set of orthodontic records in the electronic medical record per policy
  • Assist with obtaining insurance authorizations, provide additional information on denials, verify authorizations for accuracy
• Assist with treatment duties at the Orthodontist’s direction:
  • Remove braces and bands as indicated; clean supragingival surfaces for band placement, crowns, restorations, and acid‑etch procedures
  • Remove excess cement from inlays, crowns, bridges, and orthodontic appliances; remove temporary cement and interim restorations with hand instruments
  • Review patient responsibility and home care; instruct on oral hygiene, preventive procedures, dietary counseling, and pre‑/post‑operative instructions specific to office treatment
  • Apply sealants and fluoride treatments under Orthodontist supervision when indicated
• Demonstrate proficiency with instrument sterilization and infection control:
  • Maintain hand‑washing and standard precaution procedures between all patient‑related activities
  • Prepare, clean, sterilize, and maintain instruments and equipment; keep inventory and monitor for outdated supplies
  • Keep orthodontic supplies stocked and monitor usage
• Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested.

• High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
• Minimum of four years orthodontic assistant experience (required)
• Arizona Radiology Proficiency Certificate from the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners (DANB) (required)
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association (preferred)
