Position: Crisis Response Intern (CSLP FWS)

Position Summary / Purpose

Grand Canyon University (GCU) maintains relationships with nonprofit organizations identified by the IRS as 501(c)(3) by virtue of their charitable programs. The collective mission of 501(c)(3) organizations in the Phoenix Valley is to improve the quality of life for community residents or to solve particular problems related to those residents’ needs. GCU maintains a partnership with Angels on Patrol located in Downtown Phoenix (near 7th Street and McDowell Road).

Through officer‑initiated requests, Angels on Patrol moves families from crisis to stability by securing safety, providing emergent basic needs, and connecting individuals in need to community resources. The CSLP student worker’s work schedule is dependent on the hours of operations and needs of Angels on Patrol; however, CSLP student workers may not work more than 20 hours per week during the academic year (i.e., fall/spring).

If eligible, CSLP student workers can work during summer (i.e., May – August). CSLP:
This position has been reviewed and approved as Community Service as defined by 34 CFR 675.2(b). Per 34 CFR 675.2(b), community services are defined as, “Services which are designed to improve the quality of life for community residents, particularly low‑income individuals, or to solve particular problems related to their need.” These services must be open and accessible to the community.

As an FWS‑CSLP approved position, its services will be offered to non‑GCU community members (i.e., local residents).

Primary Responsibilities / Accountabilities / Essential Functions
  • Work with the reporting Office and client to create a stabilization plan
  • Submit resource referrals for clients in need of additional resources
  • Collect and track case data and financial documents for each case
  • Assist with general administrative tasks and overall agency communications
  • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Have passion and willingness to help others succeed. Possess strong ethics, integrity, and sense of responsibility. Must have reliable transportation. Previous mentoring a plus. Ability to speak a second language a plus.

    Experience / Education

    Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy. Therefore, all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment:
    Enrolled at GCU in a bachelor’s program or master’s program full‑time during fall/spring or half‑time during summer. Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student. Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
