Family Engagement Liaison
The Family Engagement Liaison coordinates between the school, Family & Community Engagement Coordinators, and the Family & Community Engagement Manager to support engagement efforts; collects, maintains, and inputs information on students who qualify for and are receiving student services. Serves as a direct link to parents/guardians to increase engagement and improve student achievement and social-emotional well-being. Provides support for the District's bus and lunch program.
Essential Functions:
- Works collaboratively with the regional Family and Community Engagement Coordinator and Family and Community Engagement Manager to support the planning and implementation of parent/guardian engagement workshops, events, meetings, activities, etc.
- Provides parental support in a variety of areas for the purpose of removing barriers to learning and supporting the family with goal setting, parent advocacy skills, SEL skills, etc.
- Connects parents/guardians to appropriate staff, teachers, or programs to ensure awareness and access to information to support their students' academic and social emotional success.
- Answers questions, inquiries, or requests from eligible students or households related to providing information, eligibility, and resolving problems.
- Assists parents/guardians with completing enrollment, including enrollments that may require eligibility or an application/acceptance process, and assist with access and connection to extra-curricular activities.
- Distributes, collects, and reviews data from student applications, intakes, and/or assessments to determine aid eligibility and make the award of the appropriate eligibility within state and federal and/or District policy.
- Monitors eligible students to ensure on-going participation eligibility and services.
- Encodes eligible students' breakfast/lunch tickets as required for the District to maintain Provision Two (2) status.
- Maintains accurate records and implements guidelines and procedures as authorized by District Policy, state, and federal agencies.
- Works collaboratively with the Community Liaison and/or Student Liaison to conduct home visits to provide support, and deliver food, resources, information sharing, etc.
- Prepares reports as required.
- Performs general clerical functions and assists in maintaining student folders.
- Supports the dissemination of information to parents/guardians.
- May assist in data entry of required forms from the PXU student handbook (i.e. code of conduct receipt, weapons policy, internet authorization form, media release, etc.) into the student information system.
- Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Fluency in the language of the target population served preferred.
- One year experience working with families and high school students of diverse backgrounds.
- A valid Arizona State Driver's License is required.
- Possess an Arizona Department of Public Service IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required:
- Fluency in the language of the target population served is preferred.
- Knowledge of state, federal and/or District policies, rules, regulations, guidelines, and procedures for awarding of eligibility.
- Ability in maintaining accurate records, logs, and filing systems.
- Skill in researching and compiling data for reports, presentations, and technical documents.
- Skill in planning, prioritizing, and completing assignments with minimum supervision.
- Skill in understanding, explaining, and applying relevant rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability in operating office equipment and computer software.
- Ability in following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Ability in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability in providing excellent customer experiences, including but not limited to interacting tactfully and courteously with the public.
- Commitment to creating and sustaining a thriving learning and working environment for students and staff.
- Ability in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Ability in using initiative within organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Ability in maintaining confidentiality with highly sensitive information.
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
- Work is performed throughout campuses and student residences within Maricopa County. Both indoors and outdoors.
- Work requires exposure to hot and cold temperatures.
- Physical ability to perform all of these essential functions.
- May be required to lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
