Position: Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) Lead Mentor (CSLP FWS)

Position Summary

Grand Canyon University (GCU) maintains partnerships with nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations in the Phoenix Valley. This role supports the partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central AZ (BBBSAZ) at 1615

E. Osborn Road, Laveen, AZ, 85339. The student worker facilitates mentoring programs for children aged 6‑18 in Maricopa and Pinal Counties. The position is a Community Service (CSLP) role approved under 34

CFR
675.2(b) and is open to non‑GCU community members.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead mentoring groups by facilitating group relationship development and lessons via Empower

    U.
  • Maintain records of sessions and conduct check‑ins with school liaisons.
  • Prepare and implement mentoring curriculum and activities, recommending adjustments to materials as needed.
  • Use MS Office Suite for documentation and communication.
  • Follow FWS‑CSLP requirements, including completion of FAFSA to be reviewed for FWS eligibility.
Qualifications
  • Enrolled full‑time in a GCU bachelor’s or master’s program (half‑time in summer) with a 2.0 GPA (bachelor) or 3.0 GPA (master).
  • Good financial and academic standing (SAP) with the University.
  • Passion and willingness to help others succeed; strong ethics, integrity, and sense of responsibility.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Prior mentoring experience (preferred).
  • Ability to speak a second language (preferred).
  • Maximum of 20 hours per week during the academic year; eligible to work during summer months (May–August).

Pay rate:
Minimum Wage. Anticipated end date:
June
30,2027.
