Description
The Support Staff position at John McCain's Veteran Center is ideal for someone with prior military experience or familiarity with veteran culture who values structure, teamwork, and service. We are committed to serving Veterans with dignity and compassion by connecting them to the resources and support they deserve. Our Support Staff monitor clients, transport them for treatment, communicate and document all occurrences, and help to provide a safe, caring environment in which the clients can recover.
The Support Staff spend more direct time with the clients than any other position, and as such, are the lead role models in helping the clients to rebuild new lives. It requires maintaining a positive, productive attitude, even when clients may be argumentative or non-compliant.

Axiom Community of Recovery (ACR) is a Phoenix-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting long-term recovery through peer-driven support, workforce development, and recovery-oriented services. We serve individuals facing substance use and mental health challenges by providing compassionate, community-based programs that empower people to rebuild and lead fulfilling, self-sufficient lives.
ACR specializes in peer support services, case management, workforce development, creative expression, and transitional living for Veterans. Our programs are designed to address the unique needs of underserved populations by combining recovery support with practical life skills, employment readiness, housing stability, and opportunities for personal growth.
Through a holistic and empowering approach, ACR helps individuals build resilience, achieve independence, and create sustainable pathways to recovery.
Requirements- Working knowledge of recovery programs including:
The 12 Steps, Smart Recovery, etc. - Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record
- Shift Flexibility
- Take direction well
- Team player
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Food Handler's Card
- Negative TB Test
- Computer skills:
Knowledge of Windows, basic email, Microsoft Word, timekeeping software. Basic computer navigation skills. Ability to type at least 30 words per minutes. - Professional and/or personal experience with substance abuse treatment is highly preferred.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret emails, policies, letters, procedures, etc.
- Ability to operate 15-passenger van
- High level of patience
- Veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces (honorable discharge preferred).
- Personal or professional experience in recovery or substance use treatment.
- Familiarity with 12-Step programs, VA systems, or trauma-informed care.
- CPR and First Aid certification (can be provided by the organization).
- Fingerprint Clearance - must start fingerprint application process within 2 weeks
