About Caribou
At Caribou, we care about giving people financial freedom so they can focus on what’s most important to them. Today, less than two percent of Americans refinance their auto loans despite increases in the cost of new and used cars. We help people reduce their monthly auto expenses and improve predictability by pairing customers with community banks and credit unions, guiding them through the process quickly.
On average, drivers save $159/month on their car loans while protecting their investment long term.
Caribou is led by leaders from technology, automotive, and finance, and is backed by investors including QED Investors, Goldman Sachs, Moderne Ventures, Accomplice, Link Ventures, Motley Fool Ventures, and others.
About the Role
Do you thrive on building testing platforms that make great tests inevitable? Do you believe that when engineers take the lead on testing their own work, the end result is a superior product? This Quality Engineering role may be for you.
You’ll join a team of 3 QE engineers using Playwright, Claude Code, and Harness to build the frameworks, tooling, and standards that enable robust automated testing. You’ll evolve and standardize how we use these tools across teams, with the goal of helping Caribou reach DORA Elite performance by empowering engineers, not blocking or testing for them.
What You’ll Do
- Guide framework evolution
:
Standardize patterns across our testing stack (RSpec, Playwright, Jest) and make architectural decisions about new tool adoption - Build enablement infrastructure
:
Design factory patterns, data seeds, and service stubs enabling sophisticated testing in inner development loops without full integration - Define quality standards together
:
Establish coverage thresholds, test suite structures for product types, and boundary metrics giving teams clear targets - Optimize delivery pipelines
:
Integrate quality gates into CI/CD, balance performance and reliability, and analyze data to remove shipping bottlenecks - Mentor and share best practices
:
Collaborate with teams to avoid flaky tests, design testable code, and build robust automated coverage - Enable data-informed improvements
:
Analyze quality metrics (flaky tests, incidents, DORA) to identify systemic issues and drive process improvements
What We’re Looking For
- Experience with Ruby on Rails applications
- Building or evolving test automation frameworks (RSpec, Capybara, Playwright, or similar)
- Production systems and collaborative debugging
- Translating quality metrics into actionable improvements (DORA metrics experience a plus)
- Mentoring or coaching teams to strengthen engineering practices
Nice to Have
- GCP, Docker, or containerized environments
- Interest in using AI to boost testing productivity
Ruby on Rails experience is required
—most of our platform is Rails.
Location and Flexibility
This role can be based in our Denver office or work remotely from a state where Caribou operates, with a preference for the Chicago, IL;
Denver, CO; or San Francisco, CA markets. Occasional in-person team meetings may be required.
About You
You’re a pragmatic, technically-minded leader who views quality as a shared responsibility. You’re data-driven and can turn quality insights into engineering action. You communicate effectively with both technical teams and executives.
You, like us, are committed to achieving your goals. At Caribou, our three core values are:
Give a damn. Velocity. Make the assist. We move with urgency toward our outcomes and help each other along the way.
How we will take care of you
We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package, including:

- Eligible for annual performance-based incentive
